I watch all the sand track training motos on YouTube and really feel like I’m missing out. Anyone got the secret spot in the north east?
It'd be a drive for you but I know there is West Craven in NC.
About 4 hours but go up north to Ontario Canada to Gopher Dunes. Probably a top 5 sand track on this planet!
That’s awesome, more like 9hrs from the bottom of pa though.
west craven looks sweet also like 8hrs.
sheeesh what a moto deprived area lol.
So, the closer you get to the coast (or river), the better chance you might have for a sand track. I did a quick Google search and saw Field of Dreams MX in Millville, NJ. www.njmpfod.com I don't know anything about it other than what you see on the website but it appears to be a soft, loamy soil, possibly sandy. Might be worth a look.

Millville is an awesome awesome track , it is sandy per se but I wouldn’t call it a sand track.
thats most likely where I’ll be Saturday though!!
I see some recommendations that require quite a drive from Eastern PA, So I'll go with The Sandbox. Rumney NH.
I would google earth somewhere in NJ…. I remember driving down to central NJ from upstate NY to ride some sand spots in the middle of winter….
South Jersey sand pits, they all pretty much look like them sand tracks
West Craven is a great track! I wouldn't drive that far to ride 1 day but it would be worth a weekend trip.
MT. MORRIS sand track, Mt morris New York
If you wanna make a trip, MMX Sand Track or E Street in Marysville. Fly to Sacramento and I’ll loan you a 450.
Dude i really appreciate that offer. I’ll definitely keep it in mind!
We’re in northeast PA and when we take our South trip in early spring we always hit West Craven. It’s like nothing we have at home. Takes a bit of getting used to and have to change your riding style but man is it fun! Make the trip sometime, it’s worth it!
Gopher is too gnarly lol. Honestly the family that owns it is hands down on of the best Moto families. But that track for sure kicks your ass. Amazing what that guy did from over seas to race Southwick then gopher then San del lee then I think they said he raced the gnarly sand track over seas that is for whatever reason not letting me remember the name.
Edit: lommel
What track is this? I have a track nearby the area people love to trespass on and never heard of a riding spot open to public in mt morris.
Grew up riding these tracks. They are great.
Field of Dreams is sort of like E Street but a bit less sand.
Real sand tracks are in NJ pits and Southwick. I need to make the drive to West Craven.
I thought that NJ decided to crack down on riding the sand pits making it illegal and impounding motorcycles? I had a friend who went to the Chatsworth, NJ area on my recommendation and was cited for trespassing and had his bike impounded by a NJ State trooper. I would check with locals and find out where you can "safely" ride to avoid getting your bike impounded.
You know, it's probably Southwick, not that it sucks! It's not that far from Clifford or Scranton, where are you?

There's a sand spot by Barnegat Toll Plaza in NJ. About an hour from Philly. I was there like 10+ yrs ago and there was a bermed up track with rollers. I don't know what it's like now. You can see it in google maps.
I'm further south then you (in Maryland) and have just bitten the bullet and driven to Southwick to race at least a dozen or more times over the years.
If you've never raced there and are truly wanting the sand experience you might as well just order the whole enchilada!! Its an experience well worth doing it once for any motocrosser. I'm sure these New England guys can probably tell you the ideal time to race there or maybe events or practice days where you can maximize your seat time to make the drive even more worthwhile.
Take advantage of any of the local NJ tracks that some folks are tossing out there as well. You might want to hit these a time or two before trying Southwick.
Delaware used to have some sand tracks years ago- but these tracks are long gone(Harrington comes to mind) and I haven't hit anything in Delaware in years... Maybe others can chime in any any sand tracks in Delaware (if any are currently active).
Have fun!!
There are a lot of pits in NJ. I go to one that is pretty off the beaten path, during the week, and get in and out. I have heard of people having issues at some pits though. I would be happy to pay a ticket, getting a bike impounded would not be fun.
Sandbox NH and Southwick MA are probably the best sand tracks in this "area" otherwise.
There is no safe spot. Need to know locals and know parking spots. Don’t come down here and ruin it for the locals. It’s the out of town kooks that don’t know the area that park on the side of the road and at wawas that start ruining it. Out of sight out of mind. Wasn’t until Covid my local spots starting blowing up. Now it’s unrideable on some weekends with all the wheelie boy quad riders and their side by sides
THIS ^
Sounds like you got the spots and no invite. Vital sucks lol
As a New England transplant to the Bay Area, I ride both of these often and they are top notch tracks. E-street has big, yet safe jumps.
Neither of them would be considered a sand track by New England or South East standards.
Currently in South Carolina and the tracks here are sort of sandy by those standards and much sandier than MMX and E-Street. To me the dirt is the perfect mix. It gets bumpy but never really packs in to where it gets hard. Finding the areas where the orange clay meets the sand (Club MX is close to that mix of dirt) gets you the best of both worlds. The Shoals is like that. Paradise MX is more sandy. Ten Mile MX as well. North Florida is good too.
All very far from PA...
He’s right you need to be conscious of where you park, when you ride, et cetera. He’s also right that idiots ruin it. I had a great parking spot for a pit but the owner of the land that backed up against it got tired of people leaving beer cans and revving their bikes by his house and started calling the cops.
From NW PA and rode West Craven last summer. That was an experience I will never forget! Worst/best day of riding ever having never ridden sand before. Can't wait to go back!
The pine barons in nj and it’s not supper sandy but the landing in Easton md , feild off dreams in nj and englishtown nj gets really rough , there is a bunch off sand tracks in the Carolina’s Elizabeth city NC , Sandhills in sc stay with in a hour off the ocean and your good
Wisconsin Rapids- Dyracruse middle of the state has Gopher dunes beat. And it was rougher yrs ago when more rides raced. That track is flat. This 1 is deeper sand with hills through a woods. 1 hill is not raced anymore vertical drop tight berm into a 40% climb bill hill. A hill climb is on the property to give ya an idea of the hills. Countless miles of trails also. That area had its own riding club Sand Dancers maybe was the name. SANd specialist couple yrs ago there , a kid on a Ktm 125 could easily be in the top 3 in the holland nationals. Wi. Probably has the best sand tracks in the country with hills through the woods. Eastern Mn. Has some great sand tracks too but not as hilly. Millville is considered a Wi. Track because it’s was a part of the glacier of Wi. & near the boarder. The whoop section that’s a fermage to Wi. The national forest open riding has 2 + miles of deep sand whoops . When I started riding that was my spot. Why do ya think I,m a whoop master. lol cool all natural beautiful women too. There unique they get up at 4 am walk threw the woods get in there canoe with there dog & go for a Conoe ride b4 going to work.
