I am a lover of Tech 8s. I have had close to 10 pairs. I believe that at least in the US, the model is no longer available. Are they still being made at the factory? I do not know.

My favourite boot!
I had the first ones in 1999 and the last ‘RS’ ones. Not available in the UK anymore either.

Tech 8 fan here. Been the go to boot for many moons. Tried tech 7's and hated them. My current pair are pretty shot. Since we're on the subject anyone know which boots are the closest to them ?  SG 12's look similiar ?

I pulled my 8,s out & the top plastic part ovr the toes fell off.  I researched boots on here. Fox instinct has the best feel for shifting etc. important on a 125.  Like they said no break in needed . They fit Great I didn’t even adjust the buckles until 2nd ride. I hv narrow feet the boot likes that. I run Evs ankle braces with them just like the 8,s. On a technical hilly busy  track they worked great. Your feet feel better with the boots on than without.482E8612-0A86-45D6-AECD-34B948C00979

I was thinking that with the SG12- but just last week I had the opportunity to try both the SG12 and Tech 7 back to back.

surprisingly and maybe disappointingly the Tech7 felt better than the SG12.

Sidi Crossfire 3 TA and X-power look similar. X-power probably have better ankle support than the tech 8. CF3 might too.

Me too...We must be in the minority  around here .

I have Tech7 and SG 12s and while the SG feels way more robust in terms of protection I can't gel with it. Way more clunky so I miss more shifts and have less feeling with the bike.

The SG12 is also much heavier then the Tech7.

I'm not knocking the SG12 I'm just saying it doesn't  work for me.

A few on here blew there Achilles’ tendon out wearing sg 12,s. That doesn’t make sense being that there so ovr protected stiff & bulky.

Guess I’ll plan A trip to chaparral to try a bunch on. I tried tech 7’s, they were a little narrow for my foot But since I paid money for them I figured I’d make them work. Couldn’t shift for shit, then started messing around with different shift levers and positions, and finally said fuck that and found a pair of tech 8’s and went back to my happy place Laughing  But those are shot now so time to go try on some boots

Not a lot of love for Tech 10s?

I find them too bulky & stiff. Anyone else?

Yes but they help me grip the bike with my ankles and give a lot of ankle support on big hits. No perfect boot unfortunately.

for those that are stating the SG12 are SG12s take a few rides to break in, they are very stiff and have a real sole on them. I agree the first few rides are a bit awkward but after that they are super comfortable, i have no issues with feeling the bike, shifting up or down both on the ground or when in the air, and I know they provide the protection I expect, are you guaranteed to never get injured? nope nothing protects absolutely but they last forever and are a great pair of boots!

Any high end boot will take some time to break in. When they're new they feel super akward to ride with. Haven't owned a pair of SG12's but even tech 10's eventually break in nice and feel normal after 4-5 rides. Also don't have any experience with tech 7s but my dad has them, and said they took a very long time to break in and were super stiff initially.

I have a pair of SG12s and Tech 7s. The SG12s offer very little feel compared to the Tech 7s and are much bulkier and heavier. That said, I almost always choose to wear the SG12s solely because of how comfortable they are. They are incredibly comfortable, putting your foot into an SG12 is like laying down in bed after a long day of labour. They're also more protective, I've had a few moments in SG12s that I came out of fine that I doubt I would've had I been wearing Tech 7s. Lastly the SG12s are much higher quality and way more durable. I've probably put 7-8 times more hours on the SG12s than I have the Tech 7s and they're about equally worn out.

They were too narrow and squeezed the sides of my foot, I felt like I couldn't wiggle my toes, like they were pinched together from the sides. Also felt like I had to turn my foot inward to shift, they felt "pointier" and lower so I had to think about shifting. I tried to get use to them but couldn't. I could never get to where I could auto pilot shift without thinking about it.  Granted I wore tech 8's for a long time so changing my habits isn't easy.  That and what others said about not feeling as burly protection wise.
