I understand how this can strengthen home economy, but higher independence will come with a high price tag. If you personally can afford that and are willing to bear the cost, good for you. But what about those people already struggling with cost of living?
this is what i dont really get, the long term plan to get more built in the USA has its merits, but things are going to have to cost more, the reason they went off shore is they cost less, and american companies made more money by shipping them in,
Canada doesn’t build anything. The deficit is all raw materials/1st stage transformation/energy.
Some of it not replaceable locally in the US.
it’s just another form of tax on people. One with ambitions of more domestic production of goods.

85% of cars made in Canada are exported to the US.
Pretty sure no one is forcing us to. The US doesn’t do anything that is not in its own interests. We like cheap shit and are greedy. Let’s see how much pain we will put up with and austerity measures initiated by billionaire oligarchs before we revolt.
true.
Stats.
Canada
376,890 passenger cars, 1,159,000 light commercial vehicles, and 17,530 heavy trucks.
USA. . In 2023, almost 10.6 million motor vehicles were produced in the United States. Globally, there were around 93.5 million motor vehicles produced in the same year
They’ll sell it somewhere else.
Exactly! As an American I would say the same thing. It’s our government’s that have fucked this all up. I don’t hate the people from other countries, but I do hate their governments, just as I hate my own.
The U.S. has all the natural resources, industry, and man power to build whatever it needs. I believe politicians and C.E.O.'s have lined their pockets shipping manufacturing jobs overseas, and putting up political road blocks for stopping production here (calling out the EPA specifically). It'll take time to turn the ship around, but I think Trump wants to make America 100% self sufficient. I dont see any reason it cant be. If the cost of a new PS5 - or a bottle of Crown Royal keeps you up at night, your priorities are completely askew.
This is wrong. USA is independent to a very high degree, but there are several materials that need to be imported because they don't exist or the volume neded isn't available. For example rare earth materials, uranium, lithium, natural rubber, copper and so on.
I hope your able to save up, and get that new Xbox you've always wanted. Keep working at it, and maybe one day it'll happen for you. There's a bigger picture lurking here, and I'm not sure your seeing it. Manufacturing jobs will be coming back to America, and the attitude of "We cant do that here anymore" will be turning around.
Russia has fuckloads of that.
Uranium mines in the United States are located in Wyoming, New Mexico, Colorado, and Utah.
The US is the second largest producer of copper in the world.
Lithium deposits in the US
Silver Peak Mine: Located in Nevada, this brine evaporation mine is owned by Albemarle, one of the world's largest lithium producers.
McDermitt Caldera: Located on the Oregon-Nevada border, this ancient volcanic caldera may contain 20–40 million metric tons of lithium.
Bessemer City Mine: Located in North Carolina, this mine contains lithium deposits.
Kings Mountain Mine: Located in North Carolina, this mine contains lithium deposits.
You got us, we don’t have rubber trees.
Woah woah woah now. An Albertan who hates diesel trucks, doesn’t know who Corb Lund is and hates hockey? You sure you’re one of us?
At least we can agree on beer though.
B-b-but the price of graphics cards for my gaming pc went up 20% overnight. If these things keep getting more expensive, moms gonna quit buying them for me. Elon Musk is a Nazi, please donate to Ukraine, and dont forget Trump is a felon. I think I covered all the talking points there.
🤣🤣🤣
You forgot, “RACIST”!
Pit Row
Now we’re hearing the tariffs may be rolled back
Those tariffs only apply once a certain threshold has been met. They're there to protect against US companies dumping inventory into Canada and destroying the market.
That's what happens when you get your info from right wing shills on twitter
Gotta protect that Quebec dairy cartel. Although, to be completely fair, you guys subsidize dairy farms fairly heavily.
Good chunk of the rest of that is retaliatory already. I will concede that the US had a point on some of them though. Like metals as an example, the PRC was shipping it here, someone would basically stamp it and sell it on. I would like to point out that most of our smelters were bought out by US interests some time ago, so it was sort of a case of American companies using Canada to rip off Americans.
Basically we down on the ground are all caught in the middle of a bunch of crap from both sides. And the people making thus shit up aren't affected at all.
Get your facts straight.
It was on Instagram, so it must be true. And it is called X now, not twitter.... (:
Instagram just is everything that was on Twitter and TikTok 2 weeks ago.
Saw the exact tweet that your post is a screenshot of 3 days ago.
And, much like the Gulf of Mexico, I don't recognize and won't use these new names because they're both as dumb as the people who came up with them
But I thought tariffs didn’t work? And the cost just gets passed on to the consumer? And raise prices…blah blah blah
If tariffs don’t work, then why have them on anything (even over a certain threshold)?
And how is Gulf of Mexico any more fitting than Gulf of America?
Remember, it's North America, Central America, and South America. Gulf of America makes more sense continentally.
Exactly, we’re the United States of America. Why we’re referred to as America is beyond me.
***And, much like the Gulf of Mexico, I don't recognize and won't use these new names because they're both as dumb as the people who came up with them***
Well that settles it then-- I just emailed DJT and let him know that some delusional asshat from Canada will NOT recognize the newly administered PROPER name for that big body of water that borders the southern United States of AMERICA !!--
Oh wait -- he just replied---- he will return it to whatever name you'd prefer. Thanks for your input 🤣
All must pay heed to BH_84, the Oracle of Quebec!!!
