just had a guy quit his job

Edited Date/Time 1/24/2012 9:49pm
I work at a software development company. A programmer here was getting upset with the way his boss was talking towards him so he stood up, said fuck you, I quit! and left. It was like something from the movies - just up and walk out on a high paying job with a f.u.
he's my hero.

When I was supervising, they kept cutting back people in the department, even though we needed more.

Eventually it was me, and 2 people I managed and we couldn't keep up with the workload no matter how much we did.

So one day when the other guy was out (leaving only the 3rd person - who was still new to the job)
I walked up to my boss, put my badge on his desk and said "I quit. No one listens, and things need to change". I had another job lined up, but hadn't told anyone.

He was furious because that left just 1 person there on a rather busy day, and she was still new.

I kept in touch with the other guy I worked with and he said after that, they hired 6 new people in the span of a month, and everyone was cross trained on everyone elses duties.
He said when I left it changed things for the better and made some of the higher management take notice. Sometimes a little change goes a long way.

When I left, I was the only person in the company (other than the guy who tought me who transferred 3 hours away) who knew how to upgrade/update and modify all the software we used the way some of the managers needed things done.

I loved every second of it.

I got as far as the parking lot one time. Cooled off and came back. Big place, nobody would have noticed.

I'm just waiting for this quarters layoff. I'm not going to quit and make it easy for them; they're going to have to lay me off and give me my comp package. Then I'm moving to the country going off the grid for a while.

Before I had three kids, I quit a job over a pot of coffee. Boss told me, "How about making some coffee"? My reply was, "What do I look like, your old lady", got up, walked out and never looked back.

How about the road rage story, Mutt? That was a fucking hilarious one. Of course, not so funny when you got the end results.

Not if he's a (decent) programmer. He probably had a couple of offers on the backburner anyway. If he can't find work, tell him to send his resume out here...........they'll be beatin' down his door.

If he was married for any length of time, he probably would've answered, "yes".

I was fed up 2 years ago with my pay compared to what others were making. I was doing more work, and better work than they were. I told my boss I wanted a $6 an hour pay raise. He laughed - and I walked. I got a call two days later saying that if I'd come back the raise was waiting for me.

You gotta know what you are worth if you are gonna sack up and do something like that I guess.

....I gotta say, I was sweating bullets for those 2 LONG days trying to find other work though.

I came about thisclose to doing that a month or so ago, the thought is still on my mind every time my old cunt twat dyke bitch of a boss whom no one could ever love talks down to me the way she does. She treats everyone like a retarded puppy. Some people have already gone off on her and it'd been hilarious. I'm definetely cussing her out before I leave ohio though, it's so worth it even if I get fired.

I pretty much did the same thing at my last job. The company was going nowhere and after asking around I couldn't find one instance where an employee had made anything other than a lateral move in the last decade working for them.

Thus ended my experiment of working for someone else.

Starting up another business of my own again. Screw having a boss.

You know how different life is when you're young with no kids, it's much easier to get up and walk out. When we first got married before we had kids I had a lousy truckstop waitress job. Mutt had just busted up his ankle and we were broke with no certain plans and financially we were strapped. I needed this stupid job but it kept getting worse and rather than the 2-3 waitresses we had at a time they left me to run the whole place by myself. With no help but an increasing amount of asshole customers I grabbed my keys and walked out the front door. Threw my apron out the truck window as I sped out of the parking lot....really dramamtic country-video like.....I would never do anything like now with three kids.
