When I think of the best model for a Republican President, I think of Ronald Reagan. Maybe Desantis is that guy, I don't know. But I know who isn't. Best thing for the country and the Republican party is for someone to put Trump out to pasture.

would be nice to see a leader between the ages of 40-50. our system needs a serious change. i'm too dumb to know what that change entails, but a change is needed.

Ron Desantis checks almost every box. Young, a veteran, highly educated, experienced, bold, and politically polished. All the makings for a very strong leader. 2024 can’t get hear soon enough. In only two years under this current administration this country has lost its identity. Nothings on track. Each day gets harder for the lower/middle class just to survive. Forget new home ownership or affordable rent. That’s become almost impossible. This is not sustainable. Let’s hope this country gets the change it desperately needs. Not just for our lifetime, but for our childrens

Don's reputation is ruined with people on the left that might consider voting red after all the chaos and failure we have now. My vote is Ron

I will never vote for Desantis, he’s not a small government guy by any stretch of the imagination.

Remember during Covid how he told private businesses they weren’t allowed to require masks in their own stores? I’m about as big of an anti-masker as anyone but I cannot support government forcing their opinion down business owner’s throats regardless of whether I agree with the idea or not.

And then we have the Disney World saga. Again, I think they fully deserved it but in the interest of reeling back government influence and overreach he’s clearly not the guy.

If I’m remembering correctly just recently he discussed making it illegal for parents to bring their children to drag shows. Again, absolutely not my thing and not something I would ever be involved in, but it’s sure as hell not my or the governments place to tell parents what they should or shouldn’t expose their kids to (aside from physically dangerous situations obviously). Just think of how bad that could go in the tiger direction. . .

I probably agree with the guy on most issues, but this incessant idea of using more government to get what we want needs to stop, overreach is overreach whether you agree with the underlying principle or not. We need less government now more than ever, not someone who’s just going to use the same strategies as the left only to get what the right wants.

i agree with you........BUT.

This heavy handed "do what we like or we'll simply legislate it" is a trend right now. Who would be running that would NOT do these things?

That said, I hate to say it, but it's a lesser of 2 evils.

Ron: wear a mask. Don't. I don't care. I decree biz cannot require one if people don't want one.
Libs: Wear a mask or we'll fine you. I'll decree biz MUST require it no matter what feelings are on the matter.

I know which one I'm choosing.

What is also interesting is what are the Dems going to do? They sure as shit don't want Biden running. Might end up a wide open primary there too.
Sounds like fun to me.

Ideal to me would be a Trump/DeSantis ticket. Followed my DeSantis and either Trump JR or Mike Pompeo .

But DeSantis/ Tulsi would be interesting, too. I’m not totally sure on her, but she doesn’t really talk like a normal Dem.

I can honestly say as someone who liked how actual life was under Trump, I’d easily vote DeSantis over Donny.

People trash him and Florida, but the man has a pretty fucking stellar track record.

Ron or Don doesn't matter they will both be treated like they have leprosy by mainstream media.

Don't get me wrong I like Ron, but you know for certain what you are going to get with Don. My only fear with Ron is that he might be the ultimate fake Trump republican. VP slot sure on the job training for 2028.

Exactly, and that trend needs to stop before it's too late. You might think option 1 is better because it positively effects your life individually, but as far as government control is concerned it's just as big of a step backwards as option 2. That's my number 1 consideration for any candidate at this point, doing whatever it takes to stop the bleeding of government control.

It's pretty easy for me to just vote third party since I live in CA and my vote is meaningless anyways, so I'm not going to have my name attached to a vote in favor of government overreach no matter what party is doing it. If I was in a contested state it might be a little different, but at some point we need to say enough is enough and stop giving into the blatant hypocrisy when the right uses the same tactics as the left.

I want to keep Ron here. There is a lot of reasons more people move here daily than any other place in the world. Thats also why the majority of the crazy stuff you hear about is from non Floridians though. Natives like my family are still rare. There is like 6 little neighborhoods that hold all the crime and easily avoided. The rest is beaches and Disney and the state is always doing great. I heard someone say Don 1 term to get us back on track and Ron to run with that and get everyone finacially sound again.
I don't like these old presidents though. Your brain starts acting up around 65 plus.

I'll vote for any ticket with Tulsi Gabbard on it. Hell, I'd even have voted Democrat if she had won that nomination. She's about the only politician I've heard speak in the last 20 years who sounds like she has a shred of common sense.

Ron would pull more "on the fence" voters to the good side then Don would I think. Alot of people are hung up on the way Don talks and what he says. I'm an actions speak louder then words kind of guy myself.

Couldn't agree more.

His recent stance on the children's vaccine was total hypocrisy. "we haven't ordered it. we're not going to order it". Thats the same stance he rallied against when it came to mask mandates. Gov't mandates forcing an action (or in this case in-action)

It's going to be real interesting to see how both parties move forward in '24. The dems would be crazy to send Biden back out there. He's like a poor aging boxer who's trying to make it to the last round despite his face looking like mashed potatoes. And I think Trump has seen a decent amount of support fall within his party.

I hope Trump gets elected with Desantis as the VP in ‘24
Then Desantis gets elected in ‘28 and ‘32.
Who would you like Desantis to have as a VP?

I voted for trump both times.

I couldn't stomach the thought of hillary in 2016, or biden in 2020.

With that said, trump is an idiot. If he had just shut his mouth he would have won another term. Then after losing the presidency he went to Georgia for the senate battle and cost the republicans the senate majority.

I do not believe there was a giant conspiracy that stole the election. I do believe he cost himself the election by just NOT shutting up. and then, January 6, and then acting like a spoiled 4 year old on inauguration day. A lot of people that voted for him are just sick of him and know we can, and will do better.

I think we need a middle of the road candidate from either party.

Hell, I would vote for Joe Manchin on either ticket just because he showed some common sense and back bone.

Desantis might not be moderate enough for what we need, but then our country has become so polarized and divided that I am not sure there is anybody not beholding to special interest so much that they can get elected being moderate.

It is going to take some leaders that can reach across the aisle.

Somebody like LBJ
Reagan and tip Oniell
Clinton and Gingrich

All got things done

Might not agree with everything they did, but at least something was happening and negotiations and compromise happened.

There was some middle.

I’ve been saying it for a while.. Tulsi would get my vote in a heartbeat. She’s “democrat” but she really aligns with most of us who are right in the middle politically. She’s one of the few politicians I would be confident with leading our country.

Listening to Tulsi talk, I wonder why she’s still a Dem.

That’s the only thing that scares me about her, just wondering if she would govern the way she speaks.

I have to disagree with your take on him, and here's why.

Have you ever listened to any long form podcasts with him, either his or one where he was a guest? If he really is as big of a POS as you're claiming he does a pretty darn good job of consistently hiding it behind well articulated arguments and nuanced discussions with his guest. I don't necessarily agree with all of his viewpoints, but I've yet to hear him talk about a subject in that kind of setting without notable reasoning behind his opinions. He also has some great discussions about what his interpretation of true conservative government is, and he's the one who really inspired me to think deeply about the classical liberal principles this country was founded on and how they should be defended in an increasingly polarized world. I also agree completely with his unpopular viewpoint about the right fracturing, it's becoming more and more commonplace to attach their own as "necons" or "Rinos" for personal gain and to get clicks/attention. That's a game that doesn't benefit anyone but the left, if Republicans want to stand a chance in the future they need to stop playing this asinine game of trying to undercut each other and actually work as a team to get things done rather than tear each other down.

Regarding the articles you posted, I really don't have a lot of background on the first on so there may be something there. I have a very hard time, based on the discussions I've heard from him about gun policy, that he would truly support red flag laws that are as unrestrained as the articles make it out to be. Again, not my area of expertise though, so you very well may have a valid point on this one, but it seems very out of character to me. For the second article, I really can't understand why this got so much media attention. A girl asks him an absolutely stupid "gotcha" question and gets a snarky response, what the hell did people expect? I'm not a religious person, but I can completely understand a truly religious person getting pretty upset when someone baselessly insinuates that they're a fake and don't actually believe in God. This goes back to his point about the right eating their own, it's a waste of everyone's time and quite honestly I couldn't give two shits about any politician's religious beliefs.

The guy has had a target on his back from day one, so if those are the worst gaffs he's committed over the last 4 years that seems like a pretty good record in my opinion.

I liked her too as far as Democrats go. I remember her getting Kamala really good for being a hypocrite when it came to crime. It was just amazing to me that they had so many possible candidates, there appeared to be such a hatred for Trump, if you base it on the voter turn out numbers, but they couldn't get any rally behind any candidate except for Joe, who has been in politics for decades, and was already starting to slip mentally
