13 Years retired living a dream I've had for years. Can't believe it all worked out though it had been a priority throughout my working life. No distractions keep focused and a bit of luck never hurts.

10 more year until I can. Should have 2 pensions then. My only problem is retirement age is 63 and I’ll be 61 in 10 years. I might have to take the 2 year hit on my pension. Or ride it out until I’m 63.

I'm leaving the very first day I am eligible for early retirement. I'll take a hit on my pension, but I have a stream of passive income that should take care of the gap. If health insurance wasn't so absurd, I could retire even sooner. I don't want to work. Sick

I hear you KHI, I’m sick of the drive and work.

Yeah, I'm currently 46 and can't collect an early retirement until 62, but at that point I'll have close to 45 qualifying years with my Union/Guild and lifetime health care, so probably take a little hit and collect early.

We haven't saved a ton of money, but my old lady and I have our house paid off, so there is that. Smile

I should be financially able to retire between 62 and 65, but I doubt that I will actually do it. I actually do like working. My dad has said that he regrets retiring early, and he and I are a lot alike in our mindsets on work.

I could see working till 70ish if I am physically able to.

I'm in that exact situation except I have about 11-12 years. Have one pension now.

I would like to retire in about 5 years. Depends on how my stocks do leading up to that. It will be another 11 years before I can get full SS.

I'm a little over 4 years from checking out for retirement before I hit 60 Y/O. Could probably go a little sooner but want to load some more in the bucket before the siphon starts. No pension, just investments and savings. Then whatever SS has left for me at 62 will be a cherry on top, chicks/drugs fund. jk

My goal is to retire full time by 55. Will still practice 1-2 days a week after god willing.

I'm 32 and will be able to retire in 20 years. I could retire at 50 but my job has a DROP program which is pretty sweet and I wont be able to pass up. So I'll need to work an extra 2 years.

Does anyone have a pension that does not come from a union or government job?

I really cant retire. I live in SoCal and SS does not pay the bills. It's ok though because I do enjoy working but I run out of gas after 6 or 7 hours. Not sure what I will do when the body gives out. I'm classified by HUD as very low income but it doesn't feel like that to me. If I had expensive habits or fucked up kids it might be but I don't. Life is good. For now.

Probably not, but a union carpenter chimed in earlier and said he'll be swinging a hammer until he's 73.

Fuck that shit.

Small business owner here, age 54. I could realistically lock the doors today and "get by" just fine. Problem is, I want to be able to have a hell of a good time and not just get by. Gotta figure a way out. Laughing

It's easy Joe!

Sell the Collision biz and property for a $Mil+++, then just restore old Elsinore's for profit and fun for the masses. Problem solved.

Then, move to higher ground, buy a slab ranch, nice pool and a few acres to put up a nice shop and enough area to test bikes on. Winning!

Similar situation here at age 61. If I knew my expiration date it'd be a lot easier to plan, for all I know I should've quit last week and be going big right now. BlinkLaughing But if I last 15-20 more years we're in trouble. Selling the business when I turn 65, renting the house and bailing out of Ca. is looking like the logical choice for us. We could sell the house, but hope to be able to pass it to our kids when we croak to give them a fighting chance. Retiring in Ca. where we've lived our whole lives isn't looking like a viable option anymore. That plan has changed. Where to go is the big question.

I’m 50 now and the target is 58. That will give me my 30 years here and my full pension. Wife and I have 3 different funds set up that are so far *fingers crossed* doing well. Won’t be millionaires but, everything should be paid off and we should be comfortable. Too many unknowns though to be certain. We can only hope that our planning has been well. I do know that I’m tired and my body is wearing out. I’ve been working since age of 13. And we want to be away from these miserable Michigan winters.

Yes I do, working at the same job for 39yrs(still have 3 more to go). I would retire now but I am to cheap to pay for health insurance. FRA is 66.7

Motogeezer There are at least 15 people working with me that have a pension that is non-union or government.

Yes I have a savings plan(401) and a pension. I can retire at 55 if I want - but I’ll work till they won’t let me - I like my job (petrochemicals).

I'm with you, Dood. I can probably retire in about 20 years if I go live in AZ or Utah. I'll have to work until I drop dead on the job if I stay here.

I quit my government Job. Money was sick, retirement was sick.....but money isn’t everything. That system is broken and I don’t want to be a part of it. I’ve got quite a bit in my 401k. I’ve always put money in 401k since my first job at 18. Rollover when I find new job. It’s been working well. My 401k and the military retirement will get me to where I want to be. Although I can’t draw the mil retirement until 65. But I’m fairly certain I can be set up real well at 55. Cost of living is very cheap where I live. I could never make it in California. We could probably get by but I don’t think I could put away for retirement and actually retire with how high cost of living is out there.

Same here, but it won't cover everything.

Probably work until 65 or so because of insurance.

If they let me stay, I'll just be pointing the young guys to the problems, which is why I think they'll let me hang around.

Anyone can replace parts. The diagnosing is what is worth the money they pay.

That and finding someone who can do machining as well.
