Recognize that license plate ? Who knows what I'm talking about ? Anyone have a Cox .049cc 2 stroke powered toy as a kid ? I had a purple Dune Buggy, a couple planes and one of those propeller cars, (Prop Rod). Who remembers Cox powered toys ? Hook up the glow plug to the 9 volt battery, wait for it to get hot, spin the propeller backwards against the spring and get your fingers out of the way when you let it go or else... The Baja bug and the Dune Buggy had little pull starters, you'd get em going, yank the wire off, dial in the fuel/air screw until it's screaming and let it go. You learned about pistons and rods and fuel and spark and adjusting the air/fuel mixture, they had tires to pump up, we learned how a basic engine worked before we were 8 years old. You could get burned, you could get gas in your mouth and eyes, you could slice your fingers off, (every kid that had a propeller powered toy cut the shit out of his finger at least once). What awesome little toys. Anyone of you older dudes have a .049 powered toy ?

While I have painted a few of the early cast metal string racers for a customer (he has dozens and dozens) I had one of these. The thing would haul ass.
Yeah, I sliced the end of one of my thumbs pretty good by accidentally dropping it into the prop.
I also had a dune buggy. The cable starter was good...at least until the cable started fraying.
It became less funny to my Dad when my Pinto bodied Funny Car broke the tether, hopped a small curb and nailed him in the shin.
Would love to have that back.
This is one of my smaller gas planes. 89" AJ Slick running a BME 58cc single. I was flying mostly 30 - 35% birds , which I prefer over the bigger 40% birds. I mostly fly the low and slow 3D stuff.....hovering , Inside and out harrier rolls , inverted flight and putting grass stains on the control surfaces. I got rid of all my big air frames but kept all my electronics , most of my motors and so forth. Still have around 30 - Hitec 7955's and some other high end brushless Futaba's.
This here is a blue printed , balanced and ported BME 116. It ripped around my 106" Yak like it wasn't even attached.

@KMC,.....that story was amazing! The way you wrote it , made me feel like I was reading a novel or something. very , very cool!
My buddy had a dune buggy also. Great times, we would take them to the school yard and have drag hillclimbs with the buggies. And let the prop car go free across the basketball courts into the grass. Yea, can still feel my raw torn up burned fingers from the pull start.
Another kid in our neighborhood got burned really bad. I guess he had fuel on his pants, arms, etc and sparked the battery terminal or something. Bad deal.

That same day I figured since I destroyed the funny car, I would use the rest of the cox fuel in my 5hp Tecumseh powered mini bike, and promptly kicked the rod right out of the side of engine. That mini bike ran great, for about 3 minutes.
