M = Mattighofen, Austria (factory location)

First it stood for Kraftfahrzeuge Trunkenpolz Mattighofen, then after businessman Ernst Kronreif bought into Ktm it changed to Kronreif und Trunkenpolz, Mattighofen.
I believe it's related to the band KMFDM.
