What Year Rm125??

Buy it!! They are all good. Especially at $600. Keep an eye on the power valve linkage. If I remember correctly, they had some issues with them.

I am die hard Suzuki but i would consider doing a yz 125 instead. The main reason price of oem parts. Oem Yamaha are really reasonable when compared to Suzuki, something to think about. Also the YZ is incredible and a lot of parts available.

On the other hand i love the RM 125 s. And if your heart is set on one go for it. As far as what years i would try to get the newest possible like 03-06. The 02 for 600 is a good start to

I have an 08 RM125. Outstanding bike, bulletproof, and parts are readily available..both OEM and aftermarket.. The 05-08 are the best years, the 03 and 04 are good too but have some differences compared to the newer years.

Dont get anything older than 2005. The 2004 got the new engine upgrades, but2005 got much better ssuspension.

The 2003 and older were not as good in comparison.

All that said, there are a lot more YZs around so you have lot better chance of not getting a money pit

My buddy has a 2003 RM125. All tight, fresh, jetted all that. He rode my 2006 YZ125 and now hates his RM125.

Go for a 2006 or newer if you're looking for a YZ125. Nothing else. The alu frame came in 2005 but you really want the KYB SSS suspension that came in 2006.

'04 and newer RM125 motors are the best, after '03 they changed to a flat top piston with a torodial style head design and changed to a 8mm longer connection rod. If i was building a pre '04 motor it'd get a long rod and flat top piston so you might as well start of with an '04 to have the good stuff already.

If you go for the yamaha check a troublesome bearing on the lower end of the engine. It would dessintegrate and all the pieces go into the transmission.

Had a 04 rm 125 then made it a 144 i still regret selling that bike.

I have an 02 and it is a great bike. The only thing that I will say is that you will need to run 50/50 race gas/pump due to detonation. As for parts, there are plenty available on Ebay and at this point, there are very few things that you need to buy OEM. For $600, you would be crazy not to buy it.

yep, the new engine in 2004 was a really good upgrade when they copied the KTM. Plus, in 2004 they changed up the linkage as well.

the problem i had with the 2004 motor was the powervalve wasnt setup right- the governor spring wasnt right and the powervalve opened up at the wrong time. Also, the 2004 cylinder, the two side boost powervalves didnt close fully; i upgraded my 2004 with a 2005 cylinder, and side by side you can see the changed where the power valves close correctly. i also bought the 2005 governor spring to get the timing right. There were some pics of Millsaps works 2004 RM125, and they actually welded the older 2002 powervalve actuator rod to the cylinder so they could adjust the PV timing via the spring.

also, i just bought some 2005 showas, they went to bigger base valve pistons in the forks and an 18mm shock shaft. I am also running 2005 triple clamps since they had the same offset as the rm250 that worked better.

so many things IMO that make the 2005 RM125 so much better. i think they also ran a powerjet carb in 2005.

problem is, RMs are hard to find in good condition now. as said previous, 2006 YZ125 is a good option and there are lots around!

we had the same type of reaction with a 2004 CR125, got on an 2006 YZ125 and the difference was huge, so much more power and better suspension..

we put the CR up for sale the next day and got a YZ..
