Stanton has always been one of my favorites. I seem to remember a lot of talk about Reed not being able to find a ride due to asking too much money etc. I always thought that he had burned too many bridges. Don't get me wrong, this season I have really come to like Reed and the maturity he has presented.

What do you make of Reed’s season?
I’m super happy for Chad. For one, nobody wanted him, so he said “screw you guys.” He put it all together. He didn’t come out blazing, he kind of went into hiding during training and didn’t let everyone know what he was doing. Let’s back it up a little bit, a year and a half ago, he was involved in a whole bunch of crap. Or even before that, he had some things going, he was at the bottom of the barrel. He was out doing things he shouldn’t have been doing—partying, whatever. He makes a recovery, he’s back strong with his wife, they have a beautiful child. There was just so much adversity, and he’s overcome it all. If you put the whole picture together, yeah, it’s not nice to bring all that stuff up, but it’s harsh reality. He was at the bottom of the barrel, not financially because he has plenty of money, but at some point money doesn’t mean anything. It’s your own standard and own morals. He wanted to make amends for everything and put his life back in line.

Sounds like Reed's contract issues were about more than just money.

I think Stanton is referring a few years back when Reed took off from here...
He went back down under and took some time off to enjoy his life.

Six-time on RV and Stewart.

What do you mean when you say it shouldn’t be this close?
Well, there boneheads out there that have made such huge mistakes. I mean, Villopoto should about have this thing wrapped up in two weeks, but then he goes out and doesn’t qualify. Just stupid stuff like that. And Bubba should have been a better rider, he honestly should have another 30 points on Villopoto, but the wheels have fallen off of his wagon. You’ve got Villopoto not even making the main and then riding terrible the week after that. From a fans point it has just been great. Those guys should have never screwed up. In my opinion Bubba should have won the title, but he’s got too much drama going on with losing Larry [Brooks] and all of that. And Villopoto has fallen apart.

What is causing these mistakes? Is it pressure? These guys have all been champions before, but is it different because it’s so close?
Well, anyone who is a past champion should be able to handle things better than that. To have won as many championships as both of those guys, you should not be missing a main event. That’s just unheard of. At that same race Trey Canard fell in the first turn and came back to make the main. You don’t blame it on someone else, you suck it up and get back on your bike and make it happen.

I'm sorry, but that's kind of indiscrete for Jeff to talk about things like that. He should have kept his mouth shut.

If Jeff is referring to what I think, Chad has spoken about it openly himself. (the 2008 season)

I think that a very open and frank analogy is refreshing.

As to the details...don't care.

If 22 pulls it off...That would be Absolutely HUGE!

Stanton nailed it.

Only a champion can talk about other champs in this way.Nothing bitter or shocking here really.

Only a Champion?

Is that some of written rule in the "CORE" club?

When past champs talk of others (not only other champs) in this manner, it shows that they are concerned about everyone forgetting about their past accomplishments. Bringing someone's personal life into an interview is as low as it get's.

My take on that comment is that champions at that level have an insight that most all of us will never have and that drives his comments.

If the worst thing he did was partying doesnt sound like the bottom of the barrel to me. He's had an awesome and long carreer so far, to squeeze some good times in during your 20s isnt a crime. Seems like he appriciates theres more to life than dirt bikes more than some... he's a human racing a bunch of home schooled androids! ha.

I have to respectfully disagree. Guys like Stanton had their day, but that day has come and gone and bringing another riders personal life into an interview like that, shows that that he has no special insight.

What a country huh? Good point on the personal life but the insight on the pressure of a title chasecomes from a pretty exclusive club

I think it was awesome to here him call it as it is. What did he say that wasn't true. It's refreshing for someone to speak there mind when they a true facts . It's a lot better than being gagged and him telling everyone how good these riders are going and that he doesn't have a favourite because he loves all of them blah blah . Stanton great interview i just wish more would follow your lead.

Stanton was always an asshole and elbows guy. I don't think there is anything exclusive about that. He worked harder than the others in his group. Things worked out until JMB came along and showed him that raw talent was a bigger factor than assholes and elbows.
