I agree with everything except that he'll win the outdoor title. RV has made it pretty obvious that RD can not beat him in an outdoor series. RD has won one moto (2nd moto at washougal in 08)straight up vs RV2 in two years of trying and you now think he's going to magically beat RV in a outdoor series? hmmmm? Not to mention JS .. Winning a sx championship with an injured field is a little different then winning the outdoor title vs a stacked field. I'm not taking anything away from RD 450 sx title if he does win it but the fact is allot of riders are injured. No asterix or anything like that. I believe winning the title is winning the title ..

I think he actually gets more hype. He was favored to win plenty of titles that he did not win and all everyone was saying was that he would dominate last years outdoors.

The kid's fast and i wish i could ride as well as him, but every title he has won has come while the best have been out and injured. Our someone had a mechanical that allowed Dugney to gain points.

I guess that means his MXDN title when RV was injured, and James was a princess.

Kid is killin it this year, has more #1 plates than 98% of all pro riders yet people are hatin' on the guy. I challenge anyone to name a rider who came up so quietly without all the "hype" and "promise" from the amateur daysto have had more success than Dungey.

Dungey is a real champion. Clean, Talented rider. Off the track he is hard working and polite. Dungeys the real deal. He'll win the AMA SX title, and it wont be his last.

Dungey was holding up well to James Stewart as it is after A1. I dont know if he would be leading the points if Chad/James had not gotton hurt but he still would have gotton a few wins IMO.

he won't win outdoors. this year everybody is going to run outdoors. you got R.V. , ALESSI, BUBBA, CHAD, SHORT, Grant, and Ivan. All these guys are proven in outdoors This year outdoors is going to be the most physical demending outdoors nationals ever, and it's going to be who is got it in them week end and week out. its' gonna be winning and be consistent.

Um.....no Justin did not come out of the B class.
He raced a number of Am events as an A rider before he started riding the Pro series

Very well said, have been thinking that for a long time, the guy is extremely underrated in the US, nevermind RV or Bubba, Dungey is the star of US motocross right now, and he deserves it.

Ryan does everything right, learns from the bset, trains hard, is great role model, seems humble and not in it for the show, plus has a great style on the bike.

Looking forward to seeing him ride again at the MXDN and at a national if I make it.

Can someone look back to see when the last moto/sx season didn't have an injury or mechanical failure?

No matter who wins the title, they had to put themselves in a position to benefit from someone elses struggle.

RD has seen his share of unfortunate circumstance as well. How many riders have been hit by an oncoming rider to have their engine cases broken??

Good luck to all the competitors. They all deserve more credit than they get.

The formula for winning a championship includes not hurting yourself... so if Ryan wins the title that means he was the best and most consistant, Duh

I don't think that what happened in the past as far as RV beating RD outdoors etc. means too much. RD is a machine that gets better and better all the time. That's pretty clear looking at this years 450SX chase. I think he will be plenty competitive in the outdoors as well, probably fighting for the points lead all year with....who ever stays healthy!

I won't predict who will win the outdoors 450 title but i bet some riders will get banged and bruised which will take its toll as the season goes on as it always does. As Reed says, you have to be in it to win itSmile My fav's are RV and RD and i think that those two will be on or near the top all season long.

I don't think anyone doubts his ability on a motorcycle, he gets plenty of credit. And credit is great because it's earned. Hype is redundant. It's praise and expectation without achievement. Case in point: Mike "believe the hype" Alessi. Hows the hype worked out for him in his chase for titles?

Out of 6 title chases that he competed in before this year, 07-08-09 mx/sx he won 2 and almost 3 titles which is better than the other more hyped prodigy's coming out of Loretta's those years.He also beat Villopoto straight up many times [not just once] in the 2nd half of 08 mx season...RD,RV,CR,JS,AS,JG are all gonna be in it this summer but the luckiest/smartest/consistent is gonna win the title and that could be RD.............

Yeah it sucks that Stewart gave someone the spot on the MXDN team the deserved it instead of being selfish and taking the spot when he hadn't raced a single outdoor race.

After Southwick Dungey would of had the lead even if 377 bike didn't blow with a 5-11 or whatever it was and Dungey's results that day I am pretty sure

Dungey's doing a great job. Some of the judgments here are the product of a decade or more of "no one's expected to win but RC/MC/Stewart" runs. He's having a better run than some of the legends in the 80's and early 90's, who also had to race against a lot of stiff competition in parity.

Wrong!! Porcel had a 19 point lead going in to Southwick and won every moto on out aside from that mechanical failure.
