Valentino Rossi was lucky to escape serious injury after the reigning MotoGP world champion suffered a heavy crash while training on a motocross bike in Italy yesterday (Thursday).
Rossi, who won his 104th Grand Prix in Qatar last weekend, had a painful right shoulder checked over by hospital staff and the 31-year-old was relieved to find no serious damage.
The Fiat Yamaha rider will be fit to ride his YZR-M1 next weekend in Japan, with Rossi enjoying more luck than some of his younger MotoGP rivals.
Two-wheeled training accidents have been the scourge of MotoGP riders in the past, with Jorge Lorenzo still not fully recovered from a badly broken right hand he suffered in February while riding a mini-bike with Carlos Checa.
Rossi’s team-mate was forced to miss the second Sepang test in Malaysia but rode to a brilliant second place in Qatar last Sunday night.
Rossi’s close pal Marco Simoncelli was less fortunate when he broke his wrist in a moto cross accident on the eve of the 2009 campaign.
The current San Carlo Gresini Honda rider missed the opening round because of the injury and he eventually lost the 2009 crown to Hiroshi Aoyama in a dramatic final round.

Did you see the 1st round of MotoGP last weekend? was some good shit. Bummer for Stoner, but was good to see Nicky Hayden showing some good pace, and Spies also in the top 5. The Hondas also look strong with Dovizioso on the podium. It is looking to be a great year, The Doctor is going to have his hand full with Stoner.
Who do you think is taking the title this year ?
The Shop
So ill jsut hope for a season long battle that comes down to the wire...with Rossi holding up the big trophy at the season final race
Cyg, dont miss them, some of the best bar to bar racing in the last few years!
Did you get a chance to watch the 125 and moto2 races ? That's where all the bar banging is at.
Speaking of bar banging i'm looking out for fireworks between Simoncelli and Bautista.
I don't really like him either. He has the best job in the world and is the moodiest little shit ever.
Glad to see some guys enjoying other forms of 2wheeler racing.

The riders will be pretty well looked after wherever they go and when they're not on the road they probably all live in big cities.
I personally love watching all 3 classes. Great to see Hayden pull through and finally come to grips with an 800. He has suffered badly from the displacement drop, I really didn't expect him to still have a job. While Stoner did throw it down the road I really can't count the guy out yet. If he rattles off a few wins he's right back in it.
Rossi will be hard to beat for the series though, he has so much feel for a bike and so much intelligence. Stoner made a huge mistake and is already 25 points back which addes to the pressure. Lorenzo is awesome he could be the main challenger with Stoner at a deficit now, he and Stoner are the only ones not intimidate by Rossi I think.
