Tim Ritche adamantly denies any sand was added to Red Bud before 2018 MXoN. I have never seen anyone agree with his take, but apparently he will fight anyone who claims sand was added. When are Roczen and Tim Ritchie going to fight?

Ya Roczen pretty much said it hasn't been good since 2018.
Not to mention nobody jumping Laroccos Leap on a perfect day like today

The racing was amazing though

I was there. I thought the tracks developed pretty good. Wasn't total rutocross and looked pretty damn rough. I watched from pretty much everywhere too. When Weege brought up sand and Southwick Antsie said Red Bud was pretty soft lol

Blind Freddy can see that Red Bud’s sandier/ loamier than it used to be, can’t understand the denial?

The track is much nicer now than it was back in the day. It used to be clay, slippery as snot when it was wet and hard packed blue grooved (and still slippery) when it was dry.

The track looked good everywhere but the corner leading up to the Leap. What a clusterfuck that was all day

The denial by Ritchie is ridiculous. It’s obviously sandier than it was before

But when it was good, it was the best in the country. It was authentic north American moto. Now it just a wanna be gp track..

Said it before n I'll say it again, I do love sand too, but mainly at tracks where it was naturally occurring.

He called into pulp one time they asked him. He said the sand was natural from the immense amount of rain the track had weeks prior to the race back then. Haha.

Some say it's European sand.
Rumors say that sand was shipped in from Belgium by cover of night and blessed by Herlings himself…sneaky, sneaky way to steal the win away from team USA but surely it’s the only plausible explanation.

Would that make a Dutch victory… on home soil? 🤣

But it is natural. The owner of the track says and swears they have not added any sand on the track.

I honestly think the weekend changes people's perceptions of Red Bud. 4th of July, party weekend blah blah blah... but it sucks for racing more often than not.

Wide arcing turns and the deep sandy soil mean the fastest line is always across the inside, which gets deep slot ruts, and then when you go a little wide it's rough enough you can't really get a run. There are so many "almost passes" at Red Bud as opposed to pass and pass back... the biggest factor this week was doing the leap but there was a lot of follow the leader too.

It needs widening, and layout needs more hairpins like the 07 photo above – traditional moto corners so there isn't always a need to go inside, or you can go wide and cut back.... don't rip the bastard at all either, it's sandy, it will rough up better being left.

I thought it was the worst race track so far in the series this summer. One inside rut and one outside rut that was 50 feet further away with nothing but 2 feet of sponge mud in between.
Also the layout really sucks now imo. It’s all these exact 45 or 90 degree corners with completely straight strait aways. No more jigs in the corners or nothing. It’s basically an enlarged supercross track with elevation.

Year 2000 redbud.. way better! And also the tv production is just sooooo much better.

Didn’t they admit to adding sand right before MXoN to help soak up the rain so they could have a race that weekend? I know the natural dirt up there is a bit sandy but it’s obvious more gets added

Red Bud has always been sandy, nevermind the photographic proof.

Right at the beginning of the video DC is interviewing Lamson and they both bring up sand being dumped on the track lol

Did he make an excuse? Said he didn't like the track. Seems like more of an opinion than an excuse

This. Holy shit I miss that track! Real stateside moto with a naturally occurring amount of Michigan sand...

Richie does not deny EVER adding sand to the track; He denies any was added for MXoN in 2018.

Let's at least be fair in our criticisms. Now, let the criticisms continue... Evil

From the people that I talked to that went to the MXDN at Red Bud, they all said the dirt was nowhere near what it was prior to that race. The consensus was they turned it into a sand track. Red Bud used to be known as the "Best Dirt on Earth" for moto. Chocolate cake mix to be exact. Red Bud wasn't the only track in Michigan to add sand to their tracks that year. Big Air in Newaygo did the same thing. Some of the piles are still on the sides of the track. You have an intermediate base that isn't soft at all and add a bunch of sand to it. Same as Red Bud now, soft top hard bottom, and sketchy. I thought the same as many of the other guys here and the track was crap. It doesn't make sense to have the biggest jump on the circuit and no one can clear it. Yes, some dudes were doing the leap, but no one was clearing it cleanly lap after lap compared to previous years. They need to push that corner out further for pros so the 450's can at least clear it. They purposely push that corner further in on amateur days so it deters guys from attempting the leap. Looked like all they did was clean the track up from the last amateur event, open the "pro loop," and rip the track 4ft deep, and water the life out of it. That's another topic altogether. Why do we need to rip tracks so freaking deep? We're not planting corn here...

Rode there in 2016 and spectated at MXON in 2018. Sure seemed considerably sandier in 2018, not sure when exactly when it was added.

My take is the track does not seem to "flow" well in some sections for various layout and obstacle locations that kill momentum. Seeing riders do the leap is a big draw and disappointing that riders were not doing it with the weird run-up.
