I think nobody should be disappointed because he didn't win, that's not the point.
The point is how he left, playing hide and seek for months, then, all of a sudden, posting GoPros on facebook, twitter and instagarm (I'm pretty sure he got some good cash for that), then disappearing again and finally saying bye bye.
He's a public figure, he's what it is not only because of his talent, but even because of his fans and I do think he owes them a lot!
As I already said I'm not a fan of him, but I feel like something was stolen.

I could actually care less what RV does, he's just a dirt bike racer and mean nothing in my life.
Hope he enjoys his retirement though.
How much shit do you think Cairoli would get if he decided that in his last season he wanted to race the U.S. nationals, went 9-8 at the first round, then bounced back at the second but only managed to place in the top 3 twice in the first 7 races, then had a loop-out, completely disappeared for almost 3 months before eventually breaking his silence by announcing his retirement?
I'm not sure he would be spoken of too highly.
I guess it is worthy of of a champion! He can do what he wants but a great champion does go above and beyond a regular champion

You are correct, though. There would certainly be people talking trash because he didn't retire the way they wanted him to, just like people are doing now to RV. There are trolls/people with shitty opinions on both sides.
Pit Row
To a point I do agree with him, its not the fairy tale ending we all wanted to see but like JT was saying, he was basically forced to race this year anyways. This was the first opportunity he got for a way out and he took it.
He did not want to race, He raced to satisfy whomever and then He got hurt , Once again He was completely over it.
No way at this point was going to satisfy everyone.
my $.02
He could of retired last year if he wanted but did not want to pay the penalty as JT$ said.
What none of the opinions in this thread and most of all the others on the RV retirement fail to consider is this...RV doesn't have one single shit to give anymore. Period. He was over pro racing at the end of 2015...and wanted to walk away then, and never look back. He was forced to race by those who held him in contracts. Now that he can walk away...he doesn't give a damn how it looks to you, to me or to anybody else. You can cry and moan that he isn't going out like a champion all you want...but he doesn't care. He's gone, and that's all he cares about.
Not exactly what you are looking for in a 'brand ambassador'
