SX is made for live attendance, but I have zero motivation to go see one.

TV is the best seat in the house for MX, but I'd rather go fight the crowds, stand in the 100 degree heat, and suck in the dust.

I guess I'm just slow in catching on.

I agree.
I'd rather go see an outdoor national anyday.

Yep, the Nationals are always more exciting to watch than Stoopidcross.

it's because MX is the real thing and sorry but for me SX is still a dump truck track......of course alot of the nationals are turing into that stuff more and more.

I have no motivation to fight the traffic and find a place to park at a supercross. I had it down to a science in pontiac but then they moved it to ford field in downtown detroit. screw that. im not tailgating in a damn parking garage.

After Vegas last year, I told myself I'd go to the Phoenix SX this year and that's it. I wanted to try to make it to more Nationals.

Well, as it turns out, I've been to seven this year and going to Vegas, too. It's been a blast and I've seen some great racing. Minneapolis was outstanding!

I still plan on hitting some Nats but SX has been good.

Nationals are where it's at. I hardly even get excited for supercross anymore.

Its all about the racing to me, both venues have their place. I think that if SX was taken away, most people would complain about the long off season and soon there would be some sort of indoor series once again.

MotoGP, MX, SX, SuperMoto, US RR series, F-1, NASCAR, Sports car series of all kinds(hey gotta love Audi Diesil's @ 200MPH) and more are all great fun to watch as long as there is some sort of racing for position going on.

I know that I'll never ride a full-on supercross track, but I can certainly watch and appreciate the skills of those who do.

I also like the roughness and speed of outdoor racing.

Personally, I think having both makes the sport better.

SX is something cool to watch in the winter, but everyone knows the outdoors is the real deal.

They are both cool and unique. I just can't imagine being at a Supercross and not getting into it. It's a mixture of a rock concert and a race.
And there is nothing better than hanging out all day at a national. For one you can get a lot closer to the action. And it's cool that as amateurs we can race many of the same tracks.

I wish I was good enough to ride around a SX track. I can go to MOST National tracks and do MOST of the jumps...but I would not be able to do HALF of the stuff on a SX track. I think the timing and rhythm would be fun.

Watching, I'd rather watch a outdoor race any day.

I like both. I have a blast at SX's and nationals. They both have their pros and cons but in the end it's all racing.

I agree outdoors is where I'm at. I live with in 2 hrs of Indy and St. Louis and haven't been in 3 years now and probably won't go.

Something about those $8 beers and $7 hot dogs, 15 min. mains that just doesn't seem as appealing as it used to be!

I'm an outdoor MX kinda guy. SX is like a sideshow to me. There are some really talented riders & some good racing on occasion. The lights class this year has been outstanding but sub 50 sec lap times & 12-15 min. mains don't do it for me. I can do without the laser show & the fireworks too. The expensive beer & food are another downer. Outdoor nationals are like all day tailgate parties with lots to see & do.

As long as it is pretty much a foregone conclusion what the running order will be at the end of the race and the end of the season, SX (and MX) will continue to suffer from lackluster interest. I haven't been to an SX in 4 years. Now, if the racing were tightly-contested every week, with all of the big names staying healthy the whole season, I'd probably find the drama compelling enough to spend the money and hassle to go.

MX is core and I love the races I've been to, but I've also really enjoyed the SX races I've been to. I thought Dallas was great this year.

Watching those guys work the rhythm sections...KW and Canard charging through the pack in their races. Getting to watch the whole track instead of two corners. Lots of hotties all around. Not a bad time. There was that chick that screamed every 3 minutes that was pretty annoying...

For actually watching racing (being able to see the racing) SX is a better live event for the most part. Unfortunately, it's too often that there isn't much racing. But, when you get to watch a great rider slice through the pack or battle for positions it's a blast.

If you wanna watch the racing in general (sx or mx), the best seat is usually on the couch.

I just find it odd that going to a live SX doesn't appeal to me more than it does, especially since it is really made for it. It's not that the racing isn't exciting. Heck, both Lites classes this year are wicked, and even the big bore class is still a surprise.

I'm guessing it must be the same-ol' same-ol' design of those stupid SX tracks.

that's what I liked about Dallas...there was more than one rhythm through the two rhythm sections. The different rhythms had their advantages and disadvantages. Made it much more interesing than mosts tracks.

The bikes have gotten so good that there are so few people that are challenged by Supercross tracks anymore.

Add to that changes in design lke shorter tracks and very few bowl turns and most supercross races are yawners.

Now factor in the crowds, the reduction in racing you get to watch, and mains that last 14 minutes and it is just not worth it anymore.

Here is what they need to do:

Put the premiere class on 250s (F or T),

Make the "Lites" (I can't even hardly say that crap, let alone type it) into a 150 class for big wheel 150Fs and 125 two strokes.

Make the Mains 20 minutes +2 laps for the lites and 30 minutes + 2 laps for the Supercross class.

Have an early autograph session for people that are actually knowledgeable about the sport. They have to answer 3 trivia questions to get in. Then let the sweaty, non-riding public in at the usual time.

Use all the freaking space on the floor. Cut out all these weird configurations for crossing the start and running down it backwards. Geez, it isn't like they don't have time to fix the first turn with so few races.

Let the mechanics use radios (provided by Live Nation) that have a 5 second transmit delay so they can get the freaking mechanics and managers off the floor. That crap looks so 1980's.

Black flag riders when they go two laps down to the leader except on the white flag lap.

Have a one spot lottery from those that don't make it out of the last chance qualifier to go to the main. Why start with empty gates? Let some schmo that is always 3 spots way from qualifying hold out for the dream of racing a main.

Move up some freaking LITE riders! 3 or 4 years finishing well in the lites is absurd.

I've had fun at all the SX races I have been to this year. The lites classes on both coasts have been just amazing with the amount of talent and racing. The SX class has been fun too. I can appreciate the talent that is needed to race indoors.

But...like everyone has said, there is something about the nationals that are more fun. Being on the fence-line, hiking around the track, hanging out with your buds watching some great racing for a few hours and the speed!

Bring on the nationals!

great answer Paul, it is supercool hanging out with friends, tossin a few back and watching some good racing. I was bummed about Mike Alessi at SDSX and haven't been so stoked to go to anymore. Vegas is one I hope to make.

I have only attended Glen Helen as far as AMA Nationals. I would rather cut my legs off and gouge out my eyes then attend that event again. As far as watching it on TV it's probably the best stuff out there. If they can get the infrastructure that SX has, the family will want to go, I will want to go and I wont feel so bad about paying $5 for 16 oz of water. Glen Helen is awesome for watching the practice, or any other event. The Day of... sucks fat stinky ass.
