He's going to win the championship because of days like this.

He can congratulate Herlings on his little MX2 title at the awards banquet.

On a slower bike. I know what you're saying, the times aren't directly comparable, but it's impressive any way you look at it

Superb ride from Gajser. He was definitely lucky to get away with that one, but an outstanding recovery

True...but some tracks are easier to ride fast on a 250 also...Herlings was impressive...but the 250 races are a little boring so far this year.

MXGP has some great racing. Last year Fabvre comes out of nowhere to win and now this year Gajser is doing it. Plus Cairoli, Nagl, Bobbryshev, and Van Horbeck hanging strong. Seems like there is less disparity between 1-10 place in MXGP vs the US Nationals.

Just watched the second moto. How he was hucking that double with the track that rough was a thing of beauty. Absolutely flew past people

Good rider, but if he is continue riding like this he will end up in a hospital as soon as they ride on hard soil.

It was kind of a Déjà vu to see Gajser in moto 2. He rode like he used to ride on the 250. On the limit, crashing or almost crashing.

The main difference this year has been the fact that he has been a totally different rider on the 450. Calm, accurate and very fast. But we saw the old Gajser in moto 2. One thing is certain, he wont win the title if he rides like that.

He was on edge for sure. I don't follow MXGP closely but that second race was awesome. Gajser was on edge the whole moto. He crashed over the bars in that one section, remounted in 15th and a almost crashed again at least two more times in the very same section on his charge to 4th. To win the overall with a ride like that is legendary.

Gajser's' fastest lap in the first 450 moto was 1.53.3. Herling's fastest lap in 250s moto 2 (later and rougher than 450 moto 1) was 1.51.4.

What i try to say is that he wont win the title riding like that. One big crash and two really close ones. There are 24 motos left and he wont last the whole season if he keeps riding like a maniac, that was my point.

He could've easily went down two more times and in worst case scenario got himself injured.

But it was very impressive and exciting!

I don't disagree with you I just have to point out I claimed exactly the same scenario last year about Febvre, and I was wrong it turned out.

More often than not though I think your prediction is spot on.

It's clear that both 461 and 243 have raised the bar in the MXGP class concerning letting it all hang out and riding on the edge by the look of it. The rest is a bit more conservative except swedish rider Filip Bengtsson who is yet to finish even a heat. He seems to be on the wrong side of that edge unfortunately.

For me that kind of ride shows that he got what it takes to win the championship. If you crash in the beginning of the moto and still want to win the overall and go after the valuable world championship points, you have to ride on the edge. I was really impressed that he could go so fast and pass people despite being pretty banged up.

We had chance to spend time with him at EMX150 camp a week ago in Spain where he was teaching the Honda juniors. I made an interview with him for Finnish MX magazine OffroadPro and he really does things differently compared to many others. If everything goes as planned we'll see him racing at Monster Cup this year.

I am just glad Herlings is giving himself enough time to gain experience in the MX2 class. I think another 2 years or so in MX2 and he may be ready for MX1.

As we've seen with Gajser and Fabvre, it can be a real challenge to make the jump.

That is ridiculous. What's even more ridiculous is that Herlings last lap of the second MX2 moto was a 1:53.0, still faster than Gajser's fastest lap from the first moto

That really doesn't mean a lot as some tracks are easier on a 250...there were many times that Baggett was faster on a 250 than the 450's and that hasn't really lead to a stellar 450 career so far.
I'm not trying to take anything away from Herlings as I believe he is the best 250 rider in the world on any track any where...but let's not get carried away here until he makes the step up to MXGP (and yes it is a step up whenever riders are forced to move up) his fast lap times and total class annihilation mean less than winning in the MXGP class period.
5/2/2016 9:46am
Tiga is really fast and has great style. Watching him is a thing of beauty. Febvre is on par too though.

Both of these young men are shaping MXGP into a great series. The new generation has taken over.

JH will change things up for sure, but I wouldn't hand him the plate just yet.

I hope any/all of these guys come race the US to bring more life to the series. I do think the GP riders have what it takes to win some American titles.

How about some American riders come and race in GP? More logical don't you think? Like the old times.
