Could we see Reed retire at the end of the nationals??

Says on his twitter that he is having a meeting with his agent and his wife and has to make BIG decisions.

This coupled with his double DNF from a neck injury last weekend (when have we ever seen an injury hold Chad back before when he's after a championship) and his other tweet saying that he hasn't been able to sleep in 2 days thinking, leaves a lot to ponder about Reedys future.

sounds plausible.

and i would completely understand it.

nothing left to prove, times have changed, not gelling with the bike, etc...

the guy has been an ambassador to the sport since he stepped foot in the 250f class in 2002. made quite a name for himself and a great future for his fam.

I thought I read that his contract with Kawi was a two year deal with the 2nd year being an option. Could the big decision be opting out of the second year and switching teams for next season?

I agree also. He has plenty of money and a family to think about. I bet mcfarlanes death really got him thinking. He has a lot more to lose than kids in the class.

When you tweak your neck pretty good it makes you think what would of happened if it went any further. If I were him, I would say screw it and only make guest appearances from here on out............or take a few years off and make an ol' timers comeback. Fans love that kind of stuff.

Man I really hope he doesn't retire. I will respect his decision, and I agree that his son being born, McFarlane passing and now a neck injury would make any rider think twice, but dang I just hope it's a bike issue.

He has said though that he doesn't like thinking about injuries and that the day he starts thinking about them and can no longer commit 100%, that he would get out. He's an all or nothing guy who will not be content to just sit back and take top 5s for another few years and make money signing autographs - I can respect that.

But still, DAMN, I sure hope he doesn't!

I am not a huge CR fan, but I certainly respect his results in motocross/supercross, I wish him all the best if indeed he does retire.

It will be interesting if he continues to race in Australia/NZ...curently he is being promoted to race SX in NZ with Ben Townley later on this year.

Funny. I brought this up on here a month or so ago and a few jumped on my ass about it. Seems it's more of a consensus now.

Chad Reed is one of the best racers in the world. He's gone through some things lately that can change a man's priorities. I can't blame him a bit for stepping away if that's on the burner.

racing shit is the 2nd coolest thing you can do on this planet. Raising and spending time with your kids is the first...........

I really hope it isn't retirement!

I like the kawi's....but if Chad aint Gellin' on them.....then he needs to hop back on a Suzuki or Yamaha......or a God Damn Honda as far as that goes.

Look how fast and smooth that S.O.B. was these last few years on those bikes. I hate to say it.....but that Kawi is ruining him and his confidence!

I think the new Yamaha would be a great fit for Chad. He is a front end steering rider and the yamaha is excellent at it (obviously Yellow as well). I don't think he is gelling with the Kawi as well and it is obvious he isn't having as fun as he was at this point last year. Not to mention all the stomach ailments that were happening and it still was a much happier Chad. My favorite rider for sure and i hope nothing but the best of him. There are too few racers with his mentality and drive. One of a kind for sure.....

I would guess there are quite a few things working in his head right now... It may be the bike, Tate/Ellie and the injury to his neck... But he has also been saying he wants to do the car thing and he isn't sure that that means starting here in Oz...

He'd need to start that soon if he really wanted to do it...

I don't think he's gelled with the bike that well, but having said that, he isn't that far off either... Just seems to plow some turns where he could do what he wanted on the Zook....

We'll find out soon enough i guess...

If this i about 'retirement from SX/MX racing", man, although I would totally understand where he's coming from, I will definitely miss watching him race, I also became a big fan of the #22 in the last 2 years and agree with DV that the sport still needs him. Especially because he speaks his mind and say it as it is.

Ya he should move into cars because nobody ever gets hurt or killed doing that... Better maybe he should just sit around in a padded room.

He's not even 30 years old and you guys think he should hang it up.... Amazing.
