Asterisk Restructuring

Been a faithful Asterisk guy for 14 years now and love the braces.

Got into a slight weed up at the races this weekend and have a slightly broken brace.

When I called their number there is a message that they are 'moving and restructuring' until mid-July and that a limited amount of stock can be ordered online...

Anyone have information about this? It doesn't sound that good.

I emailed them about a month ago to see if I could replace the boa system on my braces with a velcro system. In their reply they stated that they are moving buildings and wouldn't be able to modify my braces until mid-July. I need to email them back again this week to see if they are ready. I have been told they are in process changing to a "consumer direct" model so they are working out a number of bugs, but I haven't heard that anything negative is happening.

I've debated switching to the möbius braces but haven't seen many reviews or comparisons to asterisks. I've only ever worn asterisk, was looking for something less bulky

Sent my braces back to get refurbished back in the middle of May after calling and getting it all set up was informed it wouldn't be until mid-July till I would get them back. Okay no big deal, I have an internship over the summer and wont be riding. The middle of July rolls around and I decide to give them a call to make sure they didn't lose them. No response. Several calls and emails later with no response and I have given up. Last week a package shows up from asterisk with my untouched knee braces and not a single bit of communication on asterisk's behalf. What other company would do that? This isn't my first bad experience with Asterisk and getting my braces rebuilt... I'm happy to say i'm the new owner of a pair of Mobius braces and I love them.

I'm not sure about restructuring, as the rumor floating around the industry is that they've actually closed-up shop.

My right Ultra Cell brace needs a new hinge but it seems like it's almost impossible to get spare parts for the braces. That + the customer service experiences that i have read about makes me think that they are going down.

Well this sucks. I tried the size L Mobius and EVS Web Pro braces and they both fit on my left leg but they are too small for my right leg(3 ACL surgeries). Custom fitted CTI braces would be the optimal solution but way too expensive.

Hmm, that's unfortunate. But the knee brace market has gotten quite crowded over the past few years.

One would have hoped that they would have publicly made some announcement or at least privately informed riders who have a formal relationship with them.

Not a fan of the 'restructuring' message if that wasn't the case.

That has to be the case. Like i said. It's impossible to find spare parts, lack of customer service and pretty much every product on their webshop is sold out.

It's amazing how much market share they had, and literally did nothing as new competitors moved it and took most all of it away...

Shit i just bought a new pair from them! I tried the pods and didn't like the fit so i went back to asterisk. Might have been a poor choice. Their communication was poor this go around but i figured it was nothing much.

Ok, I may be off here but isnt Asterisk the OTC brand for CTI? For some reason, I think they are or were.

Also, how will this impact the medical crew?

I sent new ultra cell boas for exchange for sizing 1st week of June. Spoke to them before shipping and NOTHING was mentioned about them " restructuring " . I discovered this when calling the week after my shipment was received and signed for !!
I'm a firm believer that this company is now out of business due to their messages and my 50 plus phone calls + 30 + emails with no response I have actually gotten a refund from my credit card company etc etc by challenging the charge for the braces.
I suggest anyone in the similar situation to myself Challenges their charge and get your money back it is a shame because I have loved this company's product for over a decade but that's the way the cookie crumbles.
I'm not sure how such a major sponsor of motocross and Supercross could shut down all of a sudden like this and leave their customers hanging

Maybe they hoped for a restructure before it crashed: one must plan for an orderly wind down. But to plan for it, you first have to acknowledge it's happening. Maybe they just couldn't accept it until the checks bounced.

MXA is reporting they are gone.

My Cell braces saved my lower leg from getting torn off back 12 years ago, Im so lucky I was wearing them.

Another iconic MX company bites the dust, such a shame...

I wonder if the Asterisk Mobile Medical Unit will still go by the same name or have a new sponsor?

Just got an email from them on the 31st. Said they need another 30-45 days to get the company back up and running. They put me on a priority list for product once they're back up and running. Hurry up and wait.

Apparently they are under new management, they even offered to fix my braces for free. Sounds hopeful!

"Hello,

We apologize for the very long delay in getting back to you on this. We understand your frustration just so you know the company has been going through some changes so we couldn’t provide any clear information. We are the new management and will need another 30-45 days to get the company back up and running before we can sell or service any products. I will have you on a priority contact list for when we are able to service or supply product and take care of your needs."

A friend of the site let me know yesterday that there's something in the works to get Asterisk off of life support and back up to full speed. That includes some folks with better business acumen, and the desire to make it succeed. It sounded like things are in the works for a rebranding, too.

That's all good news.
