O'Mara's 89 RH250, when his triple clams broke as he was winning the 89 Anaheim SX! The 84 RM 250 factory bikes. They turned the air box into the gas tank for Barnett and Burnworth's bikes. They handled like crap. I still think the 86 RM's are the worst of all time. They went from having the best linkage system...

Anyone who rode a 86 RM, including Hannah and Kehoe. Complete junk bikes. The factory 82 YZ's that were racked, (front end) out air cooled piles of shit. They were racing against the 82 RC 250 works Hondas. McGrath on the 97 RM250. That was literally a joke. The bike had no low end power. I was watching McGrath at...

check out Ossa Planet for Phantoms. You should have been out at the Barona on "Sat. You could have seen Scott Burnworth ride his Ossa Phantom 250. Their is no one faster on a vintage bike right now!

Race Tech should be able to provide you with quality anodizing. Your 92 has 43mm Showa forks. You may have local companies that can also provide you with this service. They need to have "tanks" that are long enough for your upper tubes. Look inside your upper tubes and you will see areas where the bushings have worn through the...

What a fun project! It looks great. You should be able to find a round slide Mikuni for it fairly easy. I think you need a 36mm. You might like it more with a 38 PJ Keihin carb. Good luck!

On the older bikes, (pre 86/87) the gold valve is a good option as it provides for an isolated outward bending compression and rebound shim stack. Most of the late 80's stuff is very tunable. In your case the 89 KX's were some of the best handling bikes ever made. It has modern suspension components. Gutting out your internals and...

Nice job on your restore! I hope you are planning on racing it? Those bikes only wear out the "shock body core", if the shock oil is never changed. The 89 KX's had great suspension components. The 44mm KYB shock was used thru 1992, Yamaha, Kawasaki and Honda 125. Do not put a gold valve in your shock. Keep the...

WOW! I am impressed to say the least! Nice work. I myself have a fully restored 1987 CR125 that I race here in Southern California. I spent about a year building my bike. I love bikes from the 1980's period. You did such a great job with your restoration. Where are you in Spain? I was in Barcelona last April.

I have raced at Perris twice this year. It does not suprise me that they are shutting down. The facility has not changed much in the past 20 years of so. It was the oldest MX track in Calif.

Hey Mosslander, Yea I agree with you. The only reason Wardy won the SX title in 87 was because RJ crashed and DNF'd at Anahiem that year. Wardy got a good points lead because of that. I think that the original pick on this post was from the end of the season in 87 after RJ had won the 500...

Bailey did win the 86 500 title. That would be Baileys bike that he is riding. Maybe RJ was test riding his bike? That would be the only explanation that would make sense. RJ was #2 in the 500 class in 87. Look at his helmet number. He was #1 in SX and 250 outdoors that year.

Nice pic's. I love bikes from that era. BTY the first pic is from 1987. Most likely he was out testing or from an early national that year. He used USD forks most of the 87 season on both his 250 and 500. Those white Fox boot are bitchen!

I worked with Rich back in the late nineties at White Brothers. He was a good guy. He would always say hello and was kind. We would go to lunch on occasion. Rich would race and test ride at Carlsbad every weekend back then. He was very competitive and always tried hard. I had no idea at the time that...

It is universal with all damping rod forks. You can try any where from 160mm (softest) to 120mm from the top with the tubes compressed all the way. I would try starting with a 10 weight oil.

Elkinhammer, Bitchen bike! Nice 125. Smart move on the fork combination. As long as the bottoming cones fit in the 83 lower sliders. It sounds like you already figured that out. Why did you go with yellow backgrounds with your 125?

The stock valving in the 87 CR250 / CR500 forks are the same. The std spring rates are different. I do not remember what the CR 500 fork spring rate is. My suggestion to start with would be the following: 10 weight fork oil set at 115 mm from the top 10mm of preload I do not know what your...

Nice job on the frame. Those forks that the bike came with are junk. They are Showa damping rod forks from an earlier model CR or and XR 600. The cartridge forks have a 17mm hex on top and a 19mm hex on the bottom.
