1986 RJ 500 Pics

Edited Date/Time 1/27/2012 6:34pm
Hello,
While it seems there are a boatload of RJ pics on the net, I have only been able to find 1 or 2 of him on the 500 in 86. Anyone have anything to help?

Thanks Much!

Nice pic's. I love bikes from that era.

BTY the first pic is from 1987. Most likely he was out testing or from an early national that year. He used USD forks most of the 87 season on both his 250 and 500.

Those white Fox boot are bitchen!

That's still the best looking gear.

I thought Bailey won the '86 500 title.

Bailey did win the 86 500 title. That would be Baileys bike that he is riding.

Maybe RJ was test riding his bike? That would be the only explanation that would make sense. RJ was #2 in the 500 class in 87. Look at his helmet number. He was #1 in SX and 250 outdoors that year.

I feel that he was sx nr1 in 87 even that Jeff Ward took the title.

Hey Mosslander,

Yea I agree with you. The only reason Wardy won the SX title in 87 was because RJ crashed and DNF'd at Anahiem that year. Wardy got a good points lead because of that.

I think that the original pick on this post was from the end of the season in 87 after RJ had won the 500 title.

Buy a Bell moto6 helmet last week and will have it painted in Rickys coulors he had in 87 and will complete the 87 250 RJ replica I am collecting parts for to build soon so please put in some photos of 250s too

TerryK & Paul,
Thanks much for the pics. I recenty picked up a clean 86 500 and would like to build up an RJ copy for vintage racing. Being a child of the 80's, I had the same fox pants RJ wore at the 86 Carlsbad event as seen in the pics from TerryK. A few years back I had RJ sign them as well as my Roost 2 that was a copy of his. Both had been tucked away since my teenage years.

It was pretty neat when I stopped him to ask for his autograph. He said no problem and I think was expecting a new jersey or hat. I pulled the 1986 USA leathers and roost 2 out of my backback and he paused for a moment then said "Wow..Old school!" I had saved them for 21 years in the hope of someday getting them signed.
