On a happy note the local mountain bike trails are all getting watered today 😎

There are a lot of things I’d like to believe. The problem is that we learn nothing about the way things really are from our own sense of how we wish things to be. I recall a conversation with a student who was dissatisfied with my philosophy of religion course because it was focused on examining rational arguments for and against the existence of God, but he wanted more of a survey of world religions so he could pick the best aspects of each to create his own religion. I asked: Are you saying you see the various doctrines from...

I don't disagree that a mental health problem is to blame for this, but you don't have a good grasp on what happened with mental health institutions in this country. There was a massive movement towards deinstitutionalization starting in the mid 50's due to the decrepit condition of mental hospitals and the newly availability of psychotropic drugs. From the mid 50's until the mid 70's, mental care institutions saw a >60% drop in population. Anyone old enough to read the book or see the movie "One Flew Over the Cuckoo's Nest" should be familiar with the prevailing attitude towards mental...

Current society is full of unhealthy toxicity, and Charlie Kirk was engaging in exactly what is needed to improve society's political health: Civil, respectful dialogue. His murder is obviously first and foremost a human tragedy, but it is also a political and cultural tragedy. Charlie modelled a brand of engagement where Ideas are fair game for critique, but he would criticize ideas (sometimes in a blunt, sharp, pointed manner) without attacking the person holding them. I don't recall seeing Charlie hurling insults or engaging in name-calling, which tends to be what people do when they don't have an argument, and...

Chance, IMO, is one of the better ones around here. His memes are always funny as shit. And his views, and opinions are on target with all of the crap we see going on. Age, and experience shows a lot of us OG's the same political history being repeated over and over again. But the level of, and political power we see trying to tear down our constitutional republic, is way beyond anything we've seen in our lifetime. And we don't need a cable news channel, or internet linky link to mold our views on it. Don't even begin to...

I guess I don’t follow what you mean by culturally upperclass. I’ve been a part of this sport for 30+ years and have been to a crazy amount of races, both motocross and harescrambles. Most of the people I’ve met are your typical middle class to upper middle class families. Business owners, teachers, nurses, welders, loggers, cops, lawyers, engineers, construction workers, etc. you know, the people who make the world go around. Obviously sometimes you’ll see some very wealthy people at the races. But very rarely will you see “poor” families. Either way, lots of people with lots of different...

Can't imagine a better way way to hang with the boys.

“What I see has happened is that we have replaced old war veteran type men, strong men in general, in leadership roles like Principle or Vice Principle, school board president, with women. The men are more straight forward where as the women care about the students feelings.” I had some pretty stern female teachers. My mother (who was a teacher) was pretty no nonsense too - and very blunt. My mom owned a rental house that she rented to me and a couple of my friends, and she paid the utilities (we were about 19). We had a friend who...
