On a 450 he would be just another privateer. The 2-Stroke makes him stand out and gives him the old school crowd as fans.

Congrats and welcome to a new addiction 😃. A lot can be done on any of these modern bikes now a days but what year of Honda did you acquire? Just wondering if its fuel injected or carbureted.

My first impression is that with valved suspension, clamps, and a full exhaust it was probably ridden harder that they are telling you. However, it was probably also cared for better. I was one of the few that didn't mind that era (I had a 2010). I never got into any situations where the 450 power got me into trouble. You will be fine to learn on it and I am of the opinion that being a little scared of the bike will help you. Wise choice going with a Honda.

#Go.For.It That era Honda has great KYB suspension and a smooth/linear power delivery for a 450 MXer. Well built, light, and parts are readily available. Learn to take care of it, it will take care of you. Separate side engine and transmission fluid is a plus. Get a manual if seller doesn’t have the original and learn the ins-and-outs 👍

I see where you’re coming from, I too have thought the same thing, of corse the power difference but realistically will probably only make a difference on the start, unless you’re an expert level rider your not going to use all a 450 has, Me personally being a vet-int, although I don’t want to give up the start, I’d probably be better off on the 250, not as heavy, won’t wear me out as much

I'd be amazed if there's more than a 2-3hp difference from the stock to we 250.

A modded 250 is not going to have the same characteristics as a 350, not to mention the maintenance requirements and cost if you went all in on a race 250. The works edition is hardly "modded", but very nice upgrades if you want a 250.

Hello Moto-Dudes and Moto-Dudettes, I had an interesting thought on kinda sorta comparing a newer 450 to the new Works Edition 250. Of course the obvious is the bigger engine BUT If we are looking at apples to apples what would be a better bike? Would the 250 be better because it has updated parts? Would the 450 be better...
