Congrats! I can already hear that thing sing. I’m in a similar mind set. I bought my last new bike in 2021 (yz125) after selling my 2008 yz250.

Hoping to make this one last even longer! If anyone has any long term maintenance schedule…

Nice bike.

I love the purple rims and gold hubs on this YZ:

Unless I'm getting things mixed up I seem to remember your last 'my new bike' thread being an 05 YZ 125 from back in the Ronronmx days? Crazy how fast time goes... She's a beauty regardless - exactly what I'd get. Congrats!

That may have been my last thread, but my last new bike was an '06 YZ250.

Holy smokes! I'm doing some teardown and maintenance - greasing, etc., and I cannot get the triple clamp top bolt off. It's like a 300-Lb. Japanese Sumo wrestler with an impact wrench was putting the thing on at the factory. He wasn't satisfied, so he slid a 5' extension over the end of a wrench and dropped a small oil tanker on it, just to snug it up. I am quite serious when I say I'm putting at least 90 foot pounds into my breaker bar and getting nowhere. I'm going to be surprised if the threads on the steering stem survive.

I've already tried penetrating lube. Going for some heat next. Any recommendations?

Impact gun.  I have had this happen in the past on a new bike.

Firm hand shakes all the way around. Best of luck with the adjusting I am praying for your threads and the nut not stripping.

That’s because they’re lighter, cheaper, bulletproof, easy to work on, and easy to modify (flywheel weight especially).

I got the nut off last night. I guess the 6-in-1 did its job after sitting on the threads all day. I don't own an impact gun, so I was about to go buy one! Maybe I'll get one anyway.

Did it have a threadlocker on it or was it just stuck?

Steel nut/aluminum stem = galvanic reaction?

Just stuck. I'm pretty sure it was some kind of galling, as the nut came off pretty easily after a long soak in the spray lube. It wasn't coming off earlier when I had just sprayed it, but after a whole day, it came off with a reasonable amount of force. No thread lock detected.

EDIT: I'm pretty sure this bike was rained on while at the dealership. I see some minor oxidation on the swingarm. It may have been slightly wet under the handlebars and moisture got in there.

10-4, thanks; was just curious if they had started putting locking compound on it nowadays.

Hate you aren't getting to ride that beauty - they did a nice job with that retro edition. 👍

^I'll ride it again soon enough. 😎 The ankle is healing fast. I'm taking the time off to do some more setup and deep clean all my gear, my truck, organize my tiedowns, etc.
