Here are some of my memories of Saddleback Park. I was out there practicing and racing several times a week during the early 80’s, unfortunately I did not take a lot of pictures back then but I remember it well. I remember Bob Hannah testing a works RC250 before Golden State flying down bonsai hill, passing me in the air, rear wheel kicked out sideways ¾ down the hill lands and gasses it out of trouble. Who remembers this race? My dad dropped me off on the highway and I walked in through the pits. There were cars parked on the raod and a huge crowd gathered in the hills. I remember I met up with friends at the top of Webco and made it into the VIP section. Guys like Chris Taylor and Bruce Bunch. It use to rain! Back in the late 70's it actually use to rain, sometimes for weeks on end. When that happend, the park would take on a whole new look, feel, and rideabilty factor. Sometimes, they would open certain sections of the park and sometimes the park would stay closed for weeks; but on race day the gate still dropped. Basically, if you could drive in and park without sinking or getting stuck, the race was on. One Sunday, We made up to the webco flat area and went for a pre practice lap walk. Wow, I thought the downhill start at Lake Sugartree was perilous but that’s another level! The rest of the track looked like fun though.

A true story about Edwards AFB track, as you can guess its on the base itself, we went to a race there with Honda Research including 3 Japanese engineers. During the day someone stole a Suzuki RM and the base security force was stopping everyone leaving and checking for the missing bike. We came in on a pickup truck and the check point waved up thru, the 3 Japanese were in a box van right behind us and when the guards motioned them to stop, they paniced and followed us right thru the stop. 4 guards jumped in a security...
