Got it last month off Bring a Trailer. It was in Bakersfield and I have a customer that owns a business there and in Louisiana. I went down to Louisiana a couple weeks ago to pick it up. My plans are a vintage racer so it’s going to have a lot of incorrect parts for a 80. Already working on a set of 40 MM forks from a 83 and Dubya is building wheels from later model hubs I got off E-bay.

6/11/2025 1:48pm The interesting bit for me is to see if the central cam bearing can be fixed. It was worn like most. Cut the existing bearing to a langer diameter and put a custom brass bearing

I had seen where Yamaha made a GYTR cylinder kit for the 125, but it was only available over seas which is kind of odd. Not that it would work on mine anyways I did find the cylinder head pretty sweet. Which is what lead to my next purchase. In my opinion the best looking head was made by VHM. Turns out they offer a blue! The color is pretty spot on too! Snagged it on BF from Langston Motorsports! One of my friends at work happens to have a laser engraver and added the GYTR logo onto the side...

XR600s are awesome on dirt roads 3rd, 4th, 5th gear! And this year is one of my favorite years. Absolutely love the bronze lower engine cases against the red tank and blue seat.

6/4/2025 12:41pm So I got a bunch of those expensive little bags (no the other kind…) Also a new Cam and camfollowers. This is becomming a moneypit, but no way back now. The bottom-end is all back together and in the frame.

5/21/2025 2:35pm Its been a while since i worked on the XR. I got the cylinder honed an the crank rebuild with a new conrod. So now i started to put the engine back together. All bearings are new aswell.

I'm about 5 hours into the frame now. I've hit it twice with paint remover, and scraped it off after work 2 times. Today I sat down with a bunch of equipment and started scraping/sanding. The best method so far is a wire wheel on a drill. It's slow and methodical but it works. I have a few different sizes to work with to get into the tighter spots. I've sandblasted a frame before and it also takes a lot of time. Anyone that tells you they can PROPERLY blast a frame in an hour is likely full of you-know-what...
