1/2/2019 12:24pm You need to decide what your going to do with it BEFORE you buy a piston. Make sure you have your direction of stock bore, or first over if your going to have it bored. I say that because I bought stock piston before I tore it down....and they didn't want to take it back,,haha. So I bought another stock...

1/2/2019 12:13pm No....Mine was good, and I'm glad I didn't want to dig into it

1/1/2019 2:24pm Hope you recover quick. My daughter had ACL surgery and it ain’t no joke. It took a full year to come back full strength. But she’s going to play college soccer on scholarship, so you can come back strong. Good organization on your bike. Looks like you have a good plan, even though it won’t be so easy at first...

1/1/2019 9:27am Doing some brake work and found that the brake insulators are not available, so looks like I’ll be making those. I’ll post them if I can get them done in the next couple of days.

1/1/2019 9:07am Thanks Mark, I hear people say you can spend so much on one of these and easily outspend the value of the bike. It makes it a lot better when you got the bikes for free. So what about the piston. I figure I will check the compression tomorrow. When I first tested it the compression was at 110lbs. Now that was before it had been run and had sat for 5 years. I expect it would be a little higher now. I will say the previous owner told me how he rode the CR125 FOREVER EVERYWHERE when he in...

1/1/2019 9:06am Yah I’d first measure the cylinder and see what you got. If the cylinder looks good and is stock 54.00 bore, id buy the Weisco piston, ring, and pin on EBay for $99. It’s the only one I see and looks like you can’t get stock OEM piston anymore, only 1st and 2nd over. So it really depends on what...

12/31/2018 5:58pm Beautiful work......I always love to see attention to detail, especially when your trying to save every piece. Something to be proud of for sure

12/31/2018 5:51pm I made some progress the last few nights.. front and rear ends all done and today I will install the new, NOS piston/ rings and get the motor finished.
I replaced the fork seals with a nice seal driver from Motion Pro.. they went in harder than they should and I believe the reason the seals came out so hard is that the tolerances on the machining of the lower tube are a little too tight. The highlight of the fork rebuild was how nice the lower tubes came out when I polished them. better than new! I...

12/31/2018 5:49pm Takes some serious dedication in trying out all those different types of paint ! I was going through the same process, but my standard was at least a 95% match. I need to paint my chassis, subframe, swingarm and airbox in tahitian red to match the fenders i bought. Luckily i didn’t had to spend much on different spray paints, because the first and only spray can i bought was close enough for my standard. What are your thoughts, would you accept this match or not ?

12/31/2018 5:44pm For plastics, I’d go UFO. They make a good product and it won’t make a bit of difference when your done. There are a lot of items I think OEM makes since. I’ve probably got $500 in OEM parts for the 87’. Still can’t believe you got that bike for free !

12/31/2018 5:35pm I almost forgot. It has a Pro Circuit pipe. It was rusty so I put metal rescue on it and after two days the transformation was dramatic!

12/31/2018 9:03am UFO has nice aftermarket plastics. I had to order the rear fender and number plate in red orange and it matches perfect. I think that’s all I’ll need, but we’ll see after I get through sanding.

12/30/2018 8:05pm Good work Brian.... I’ve always hated the way the tank yellows though. My friend restored an old Husky...beautiful restore, but still had a yellow tank. There are some guys that paint them, and I’ve seen some beautiful painted tanks. But I guess they aren’t ever the same. Seems tanks are the one thing you want to start with a good...

12/30/2018 8:00pm I restored this bike last year, also a 1986 YZ 125. If you don't have a filter cage, good luck finding one. I had to make one out of aluminum and it was a pain in the ass. Love the motor but the suspension I needed some real love. I stripped the stock pipe with a wire wheel and polished it, and was lucky to find a brand new DG silencer. Really fun bike to ride though.

12/30/2018 7:58pm Unfortunately the Kickstarter bolt was sheared off I side the shaft. I had to buy a new Kickstarter and a new shaft. It looked like someone tried to get the bolt out with an easy out and then broke it off in the shaft. While the side cover was off I replaced the seals for the crankshaft, Kickstarter, clutch arm, and the gasket for the power valve.
