It 100% was not "very common" in the 2-stroke days. For some reason a few dudes started doing it around the time Barcia went pro, but back in the 80s & 90s (the true "2-stroke days"), you never heard someone at full throttle while their rear wheel was 8 feet off the ground unless it was a panic rev.

George is notorious for only riding well with a good start. Even in GP’s he struggled to come through the field.

I think we're "finally" seeing the true effects of the bad overall economy and especially a bad powersports market. I think this is the reality the coming 3-5 years at least.

As good as Geerts was slated to be, he is 4th best Belgian now, with Coenen's and Everts already above him. He had enough chance to close out a WC and didnt get it done, and after 2 seasons on 450, where he has pretty much done what he did in 250, at what point do you say 'enough' as Yamaha. At the time where he was the 'next thing', its a sound investment, but now they need to make room for someone else, who might do what he hasnt. Interesting that Gifting wants no part in the Factory Yamaha...

Well, so far for Geerts' top 5 aspirations. Once you go that way, you know your best years have passed.

I remember that day, it was the first time seeing him ride. Still have some vids on my phone as I was so impressed by the kid. Obviously didn't know he would be that good, but he put on a total clinic on the rest of the field. Liam Everts and a few (now) GP riders were riding that class as well.
