I tried and still ride trails since we have hundreds of them all around us, did that for several years and found it just aint my thing. Went back to Moto and just love hitting a wet dirt corner and roosting the shit out of it! I do hare scrambles and still hit some motocross races - just lining up on a start gate with a bunch of racers just gets my heart pumping! trail riding not so much

turn 60 this month, hitting jumps now that I would not hit 10 years ago, still slow, still wont hit big gap doubles or big booter table tops. I just spend whatever time it takes to work up to something I think that I should be able to do. Lucky we have a vet friendly track nearby that is fun to ride, Ill go to the bigger tracks with my son and do 3/4 of the jumps, I'm not riding scared but like to put it in perspective that I would like to ride again next weekendSmile ok maybe that...

Find a track that is vet friendly and practice, practice, practice if you love riding and it's your passion (mine) it will come back to you, riding and hitting jumps takes confidence and is supposed to be fun. Stick the electric bike idea you know where! I'm 64 and have several practice tracks that are really fun once I figure them out and sometimes follow guys to know the speed to clear jumps. My generation we never really had jumps so I didn't learn jumping until I was in my 40's. And if I have had a bad day once...

For fun factor I have to say the smoker does it for me. I went the 450 route and it was much easier to ride fast but kinda boring on a track. Now if you want to see what a two stroke can do in the hands of a capable rider watch the young Carson Brown at the controls of one or turn Mike Brown loose on a track with a premix machine. Your thinking on how a 4t rules might be detoured just a little.

It's too much power. Can't wait to see what 80hp electrics will do to bodies. (sarcasm)

I started to ride and race when I was quite old on a 250f. Sold it and bought a ktm 250 two stroke, and I now added a gasgas 125 to the stable. First impression of the ktm was that it was fast, but had more torque and a wider powerband than I expected. Many people told me that I would find it extremely hard to ride and quite possibly hate it, but that wasn't the case at all. I think people that rode two stroke 15-25 years ago have this memory of a very tight and abrupt powerband, very...

I think it's funny that we're all pretending 450s are just fine for the average person. Even for the pros, they are just making the power more smooth/broad, not adding HP (except for the Suzuki). To me, it's the 500s all over again except we're stuck with them.

I tried a 450 last year. It was fine until I ruptured my ACL when I low sided in a rut. Up until that point I had won several races and moved up to 30+ Intermediate. Then, I really started to think about how much fun I was actually having. I realized there was not a single moment on my CRF where I thought "wow this is so much fun!". In fact, it was pretty fucking boring. Or really a back and forth between boredom and hanging on for dear life. I told a lot of people the following words...

never thought I would say this but I actually learned something from this thread lol 2 stroke love comes from: 1.being the heritage of moto 2. Something different than 4 strokes 3. Depends on discipline of riding 4. Guys in better shape than myself

I’m in the not a fan of them club. I grew up riding them and while fun once I got my first 250f in 04 I was like screw those hard to ride slow things. Only thing I liked about the two strokes is it really exaggerated skill differences. Once all my friends who weren’t very good got on them they all instantly closed the gap on me. I could run the same pace on either but just longer on the 4 stroke. They were all way faster on the 4. Momentum didn’t matter as much and the engine braking...

It took me a long time to finally convert to a 4stroke as my main race bike. And while I think I am a better 4stroke rider, I added a 125 to the stable and have mostly had one in addition to whatever 4stroke that I own. I think once a person's riding style meshes with a 4stroke it's very hard to switch back to a 2stroke. But a 125 sort of doesn't count because they are so light and playful that you can sort of manhandle the bike around. but a 250 2stroke is too much bike to be...

I know the parents of a factory kid who is now pro. While they definitely received a lot of support as an amateur, everything wasn't free. No one was paying for their training fees, travel costs, race gas, food, and everything else. They were getting free bikes and gear. The biggest part of that is they were able to sell the bikes at the end of the year when new ones arrived. Once they got the pro contract, they got some travel money and training was covered, but now they don't have bikes to sell at the end of the...
