This has been beat to death. The issue is the stadium itself and the World Cup impacting schedule. This won't be every year.

I don't think shafted is the right way to put it. He won the supercross title in 2021, then got hurt at the first round in 2022 during the heat race. Didn't race any supercross and any national that year and, per the rule, had to move up for 2023. I'm sure if he had defended his title in 2022, his situation for 2023 would have been very different.
