GoMoto Added a reply to Kinda Moto, kinda Non-Moto-CB350

That’s a good price. The CB350 has been a very popular model in the vintage road racing and cafe racer scenes for some time. 15-20 years ago 350’s were cheap and plentiful but are getting rare and valuable now. They have a torquey, durable motor and a 5 speed gearbox featuring the always exciting early 70s Honda “random-neutral” feature. I...

Been doing resto’s on old bikes for 20 years. Hell, I worked at a M/C junkyard for 10. Nothing keeps me centered better than tooling around in my garage at 2am on a Friday night, listening to PulpMX and rescuing some poor, forlorn, abused and disused Honda pulled from the moldy bowels of some barn in southern Ohio. Hell yeah...

Alright, let me begin by saying this is my first two stroke after 20 years of riding and wrenching on old bikes. Bear with me if I’m a little ignorant in dealing with the quirks of a vintage smoker... So, I recently finished a full restoration of an ‘83 CR125R and have been testing and tuning it. It fires right...

Also, in response to an earlier reply, engine work done: 2nd overbore Wiseco piston, light porting and surfacing on the head, DG pipe and a tuned Mikuni 32 burning 93 octane at 40:1 (Amsoil)

Well, aside from the bike’s natural-born weakness or my lack of talent, I suspect there may have been an issue with the clutch hanging up, I tore it down and found that the EBC springs I had in there were a full .050 longer than the stock springs (and way stiffer too). Also discovered that this little sucker wasn’t included...

Picked up a rebuilt and tuned VM off of an ‘81 RM125 to replace the stock Keihin on my ‘83 CR125R. Racer guy I got it from recommended the Motion Pro Vortex throttle and cable but It’s been confusing as hell trying to find part numbers for pre-‘95 in the usual places and MP’s website is vague. Anybody know the...

GoMoto Started a new thread '83 CR125

7/2/2018 6:09am
Last fall I picked up a decent resto project CR. I've been racing vintage HS for the past three years or so and thought I'd give vintage MX a go, so this is going to be a racer not a showpiece. All of the important stuff is there and it doesn't look to have been molested too badly through the...

All done. Sweated out and replaced all bearings in the motor and suspension. Wiseco 2nd overbore. VMX carb manifold and radiator shrouds. DG pipe. Aluminum clutch cover. RaceTech rebuilt shock. IRC MB5 EVO/Z Mark II tires. Refurbished stock radiators w/silicone hoses. New EBC clutch and brakes. About half a year’s wages in OEM fasteners from Partzilla. Maybe more. New...

Thanks. Wasn’t really looking to spend $4K on a $400 bike but I should know better by now. I’ll call Sudco next week and see what they recommend.

Finally getting around to putting this thing together. As posted in another thread I split the cases, sweated out the bearings in the oven (sorry wife, the bread did taste a little funny...), replaced all of the bearings, seals and clutch. Cylinder is getting bored to 56.75mm with a new Wiseco piston. Other than that just I’ve just been collecting...

GoMoto Added a reply to Crank Seals ‘83 CR

By “backside” I mean the flat side is facing outboard of the cases and the hollowed side is facing the crank. Dammit, am I in backwards? Incidentally, I am using the factory repair manual but the photos and step-by-step instructions suck.

Restoring an ‘83 CR125. I’ve already split the cases and replaced all of the bearings. Tranny is good and back in, cases re-assembled. As I have only ever restored old XRs, I’m a little in the dark on crank seals. I have them pressed in, backside facing out, but [i]do they sit flush to the outer edge of their seat...

Gotta hand it to these guys for running that bike into the ground. Repeatedly. Gillen and Stank are True Grit. Have a beer boys, you earned it.
