I rode the varg a while back just on some grass track. 20-45 HP. Standard rear brake. I was in steel toe work boots and a borrowed helmet. My biggest takeaway was the bike didn’t do anything weird and was just easy to ride.. I reached for the clutch lever a few times but not a big deal. Similar to your experience, I watched him sign autographs for everyone before he jumped on his bike for the final qualifying session at Hangtown this year. Even when it’s time for business he’s got time for his fans.
