Another great Southwick racer was Mark Robillard. And the Hannah/Howerton duel there was just as good as the Saddleback Massacre, just no one talks about it.

Doug is great, when I first started racing my boots were junk and Doug sold me a new pair of Alpinestars and let me pay them off over time, I'll always remember how great he was to me and all the other guys at the NESC races.

From what I remember from second hand information back then there was a disagreement over the price of the sanction fee to have the National and the group that ran Southwick told the AMA that they weren't interested in running the races those years. I might be wrong but that's how I remember it.

Mark quit around 1980 but came back on a Buckland Honda in 82 for 1 more year. My friends and I used to ride with him at his Father's gravel bank in Bristol Ct. Mark built some awesome practice tracks that we had a blast on. Super nice guy.

That’s awesome, almost the exact same pic! Mark was a great rider, didn’t see him on the NESC scene after those years, do you know if he continued racing much longer from then?

Crazy but I was there and probably standing next to you. My Uncle took me to see my first race that day. We knew Mark Manchester from our hometown.

That section that still exists is known as "the sandbar". That, and the old mechanics uphill are about the only parts left. And of course the start gate and straight.

I entered the Tony D motocross school the day after the national in 1994. The whoops and rollers were the size of VW bugs and were best treated as double jumps. It was so rough your teeth hurt!!!

You know whats funny? My profile pic on this board (and facebook) is me crashing my brains out on the Camel Humps, circa 2005, and when you used to be able to double them. I got crossed up on the take off, cased the landing and high sided. Pierre Catilier (or however you spell it) got the shot and it was an epic one! knocked myself silly that day.

It was the only double (or sorta triple depending on the year) on the whole track, everything else was a tabletop or huge single. Recently theyve turned the finish line into a double now so if it came back it would be the second double on the track. Finally someone else remembers lol and even has pics! These things are like the ghost of christmas past the section they were on stayed (until this year) but they quietly disappeared like a decade ago and nobody ever talked about them since.
