Hard for police to get motivated to investigate and arrest someone when they know the jail will release them with signature bond and if charges are pursued by the politician prosecutor their sentence will be probation they repeatedly violate without consequence. If the crime is serious enough they might let some private company bill the state for an ankle monitor that won't be monitored. People laugh in the cops face when they get arrested because criminal and cop both know this is how it will play out.

I'm past the point of worrying about it being fair or rehabilitation or anything else, I just want to live in a society where decent people don't have to always be on the lookout for the very small percentage of people who do all of this stuff and terrorize everyone. You don't have to worry about restitution and rehabilitation if the deterrent is strong enough in the first place. And if there is that strong of a deterrent and you still choose to do the crime, I'm fine with a permanent solution because there's almost certainly no hope for...

There is nothing wrong with living in a society "like that" if you are a law-abiding citizen. You will have nothing to fear if you live and play by the rules. No need to chop hands off. The best for everyone is to humanly euthanize them. Another one off the street and no burden on the law abiding tax payer. Honest hard-working families need to be protected from repeat offenders. Currently, we are not protected.

Wolfman how much stuff have you had stolen before ? Just curious. I'm self employed and had my work truck and all my tools stolen before, (plus my kids bicycle and skateboard out of the garage). Crime is is on a all time high and getting worse. Medieval and draconian punishments are probably the only things that may deter these bastards from doing what they do. Its really bad in S Africa. They'll break in, kill the men, rape the woman and little girls, then kill them before cleaning the place out.

Sadly it really doesn’t do much. It’ll scare away a rational person that feels they have something to lose, but that’s about it. At work I have barbed wire on top of a 7’ pointed wrought iron fence, motion lights and alarms, and the company even shells out for a CCTV watch team to look over the place after hours and it still doesn’t keep people from scaling the gates to steal scrap metal… when I leave work everyday everything with wheels goes inside.
