Hey All,
I was just thumbing through my May issue of Racer x and reread the artical on inspirations in our sport. Then it came to me to start a campaign to get that award given to some who deserves it and could use the money to help support them in their career. My original thought was for cody Gilmore to win it for over coming bone cancer and making it back to racing at the highest level but after checking it out the website there are select riders to choose from and Cody is not on the list.

So I am open to ideas from the list but to me Matt Boni seems to be the most deserving of the riders. Can we make a push to get some one to the top of the list that deserve it?

I think it's between the "championship contenders" which is stupid because even though all of them have put in a great season there are riders like Cody Gillmore who are more deserving of the award. If you even want to call it that. Basically it's a marketing strategy for Bret Michaels to get his name out there, anyone can make a award like that if you have $10,000.

A couple of weeks ago my pick was Mike Alessi. If he can finish within the top ten in Vegas, I think he's a solid choice.

It will go to James Stewart. It's voted on by the fans.

Chris Blose, one of 8 riders to make very main event.
Not even all the factory riders can say that.

WTF!

Lets all get a grip.... Chris Blose should be the man for this!...

only one of 8 dudes to make every main event this year.....is there week in and week out...... does NOT get paid and does NOT have a contract... and rides his ass off and does not whine or cry like a Beotch!...and is doing fairly freaking well...!!

and if anyone needs a few bucks for a bike next year . .....my vote is.....Chris Blose!! .. i would love to see him on a decent ride and with some good support.....and making a few bucks... we could see some cool things ..(more then he is doing now)

my 2 cents

whoa now, slow down.

I would agree that Chris could be deserving. He's done well this year, and he has pushed through injuries and kept it in the main event. I am sure he could use the money as well.

That's where I stop agreeing with you. He IS ON a good team, with a good bike with good support.

I would also agree that Cody Gilmore is a great candidate as well.

I'd throw in Bruce Rutherford, he's a full on privateer doing big things in the west coast Lites class.

If it's truly supposed to be for someone who "could use the money", I'd throw out the fans voting and throw out anyone getting a salary, but then it wouldn't get the publicity and it wouldn't be a phoney marketing ploy that it is.

With that said, all the guys in the title hunt are just as deserving, if you throw out the "could use the money" piece.

It's fan voted, so either the guy who win the title will get it because it's rigged, or James will get it because he is the one who wins fan favorite awards.

Is it a good idea? Sure. Just poorly executed.

Just out of curiosity, is there still anyone putting up money for the top privateer award? I just haven't heard much about it.

Something like really should go to the privateers...the real ones.

I think Michaels would most likely just be after the photo op, so it makes sense that it is the way it is.

Too bad that somebody is getting 10 grand that probably doesn't need it.

Somebody mentioned Peick in another thread, and it seemed like a great idea to just vote in a guy like that. He's made a ton of mains with little support. When I looked at the voting situation, it's mostly people that don't need it quite as much.

all good points mr. Riesenburg....... that you mentioned... one being chris is on a good team.......but i think it may be a little biased towards "hot sauce"..and i doubt he rides for free Smile ....and i would venture to say he may end up with a little more support...for marginally better results..(not trying to take anything away from mr tedesco) then chris gets.

we can agree to disagree on a few points.....one ,,being the money issue (getting paid or not) i do not feel there is a better rider out there.....riding for free Smile i feel that should be a factor in the decision. .. makes it that much more difficult to get results....week in and week out and harder everyone that supports him (family and such)..

as far as who is deserving.?..... i voiced what i feel... and i wish "CB38" all the good fortune MXdancer

I don't think we have anything to disagree about?

I completely agree with you that he is putting in good results.

He is deserving.

His is doing it for very little, whether it's pennies or nothing, it's still very little. (I don't know if he's getting paid or what, it's not my business, but it doesn't take an insider to know he isn't getting much if anything)

And that should definitely come into play.

I love the fact that Chris will always leave it all on the track. If he needs to be aggressive, he will, he's always going to race his heart out and move forward.

As much as it sucks to say, Chris hasn't a chance in hell to get the award, because it's "fan voted" and is a publicity stunt. To give someone like Chris who needs the help, it would have taken someone narrowing the field to some truly good stories and only having everyone vote on those guys.

And for the guy who asked about the privateer award. It was taken out for this year and the money was added back into the purse for the guys in the LCQ who don't make the main.

I think, just maybe, that Bret Michaels was thinking of the "Rode hard and put away wet" award when he came up with this idea?

Just try to imagine all the groupie's he has nabbed over the years, maybe he was thinking of them when he came up with this idea?Wink

But since Bret now lives in AZ at least part time, and Chris Blose is from AZ, by default Blose should get the award.

Chad Reed?

Just joking Lou, your kid should be one of the front runners for the award if the judging (voting) is based on support (or lack of) versus results. Considering the minimal support, he is running strong. And come outdoors he should shine even more!

I think it should go to Vince Friese.

The poor guy has had nothing but people in his way every single round......guy has to just about knock somebody down to get around them all.

Because I know CB38 personally, I can only speak to his situation. But, making main events is super important. A crash that takes Chris out of competition for even a week or two means NO pay at all. For him, there is little difference in pay between 11th, 15th or 19th after he makes a main event . So anyone with any common sense could figure out that surviving a main event to get to the next race and the chance to make another main event is critical. Tedesco, on the other hand, has nothing to lose by going for it. Just telling it...the way it is.Blink

This. He was gonna win it regardless of what happened out on the track.

Bret Michaels is not doing this for publicity. He is very well known already. Toured with Poison, on celebrity apprentice, rock of love etc. He is doing it because he loves the sport of MX! Anyway, I hope RV gets the championship and therefore he should get the award from coming back from that horrible broken leg. Have you seen the x ray of RV's break? Super gnarly.

He is most certainly doing it for the publicity (not that there is anything wrong with that). The "Rock Hard, Ride Hard" has connotations with his personal brand--as a rock star--and his name is mentioned along with the award every time Ralph plugs it during a broadcast... he is using this award as a marketing tool to promote himself.

I think its kind of bogus to give the award to one of top pros. Realisticly, 10 grand to Brett Micheals AND to any of the Big Four is like 100 bucks to me and you - its not that big of an amount.

It should go to a non - factory rider. Period. ( my opinion )

I think that there are several that could be winners... My issue is going to be listening to 3+ hours of Ralph talk about it !!! urgh.

You are deluded if you think any of the top 5 doesnt care about 10000 dollars. They all want that award! Of course it wont kill them to not get it, but 10g's still 10g's. Mayb they'll blow it all on a shopping spree for their chick and themselves. who knows? but 10 thousand is fun to play with no matter how much you have. And they are in Vegas already...

So in essense, it's better for Chris to ride conservatively and just make the mains and not go all out to try and get a top finish?

There really is no money in this sport for the riders is there?
