There was mention earlier in the year of a 125 class at selected outdoor nationals. Any update?

There was a thread on this a couple of days earlier, but I don't remember where it's at. I think almost everyone wants a 125 series, but aren't sure how to get it going.

there is only one way that happens.

find an OEM to sponsor it like honda did with that pile of a 150 last year.

125 classes are pretty poplar around here right now. not sure how big of deal it would be a a national, promoting somthing that most oem's have done away with is counter productive i would assume.

I can't wait to see how our first race goes on the 16th, I suspect a full gate of 125's.

DC posted in another thread that the idea has been tabled due to a lack of support and interest.

If DC builds it, they will come. Heck, if they can do this in Bulgaria, just imagine what it would be like right here in the good 'ol US of A. It would be great, and it would be DC's. The 125 class was such a major part of motocross as we've known it and killing it off was a criminal act against the sport. Screw the homo rule and invite the small brands. It's time to get this thing started. And I would still sponsor six holeshot awards at $500.00 each!

Bulgaria??? Amazing!

A 125 class would be awesome. Be kinda like back to the old days when it was 125 250 and 500. I am sure there is enough support to at least host a partial schedule like the WMA.

I think he means interest from people that actually matter. Sure, there are a handful of middle-aged riders suffering from good-ole-days-sydrome that would like to see a 125 race, but if there is no support from the OEM's (including KTM), no interest from the promoters, and most likely not enough rider participation to fill half a gate (and only and handful of those would be decent riders), it's just not going to happen.

Could not be half as bad as sitting through the womens races. Some good riders up front but most of them are pathetic.

How many people jumped on the WMA bandwagon right from the start? Not too many from what I recall. But it didn't take long before Honda jumped on a "feel good " story. This class would fit the same schedule already in place that the WMA uses, just on every other weekend.

Who really feels that a 125cc National Championship would not be a good thing?

The OEMs don't care right now about anything but SX and getting ready for the outdoors. It's obvious that it will take someone other than the outdoor promoters or OEMs to get it going. Look at what John Perry went through to get the World 2-stroke going, and it was one race. There are forces (persons) working against this and any 2-stroke event from happening. Even so, the desire to have 2-strokes in AMA Pro Racing continues to grow.

I definitely live with a good-ole-days syndrome. I miss riding and racing with no real consequences but that's not the main reason I'd like to see a 125 class. This could be a stepping stone class for young less known riders to make a name and do it alot cheaper. The lack of OEM support for it would only strenghten the privateer aspect of the class. There would definitely be enough rider support since the world is full of young fast guys not quite making the big show. Look at it kind of like arenacross to supercross as far as the not quite making it goes.

Newmann, I love the concept of a good competitive 125 class either in place of or on the off weekends from the WMA. I would miss the WMA, though, because that is a great time to go back to the cooler, catch up with friends, and maybe grab some food without missing any action.

Funny, you wouldn't do that if a 125 class was out there, would you?

If they had at least 15 guys that could ride a 125 like it is supposed to be ridden, I would be right there on the fence. I don't think that's going to happen, though.

I was commentating 2 weeks ago at the UFO sponsored 2 stroke nationals . Listening to nearly 40 plus, 125cc two strokes screaming down the start straight ito turn 1, made the hairs on our neck stand up!
Hope this becomes a reality and showcase for young talent on the national stage.

Well I won't say much, but recent word is that Yamaha is bringing in many more 2 strokes for 2012 than they did for 2011....They have to kill off the 2 stroke Zuma to do so, but I believe it's happening. (You're welcome Newmann)

If they would just update the look of them to give it a more modern appearance they would generate a lot of new interest. All it would take is new plastics as the bikes themselves are plenty good. A true bolt on 150cc kit would be an added plus for the 125.

Why are they bringing more 2-strokes in? Useless information without validation. Word back in 2005 was that the AMA was going to allow the 150 to race in the 250F class.

Perhaps it should have been opened up to include the 144cc bikes instead of strictly 125's? Yamaha and Husky have factory kits for their 125's, TM offers a 144 and KTM's only bringing in their 150SX. Relax the homolgation requirements and let them run. This also might give teams/manufacturers a better measure of how these bikes could perform against the 250f's if they should then want to pursue a Lites class entry. If the concern is spectator interest, wave off a start or riders , then gate Stewart. Spot them a lap or two then let him go and run them down. That should line the fences and probably sell tickets!

I was just reading the writeup on the Dist. 17 opener down in Casey and it said the 125s were the second largest class of the event.
