i'll guess stevvie oster...but in washington he was 580. in 84/85 stevie oster was like a buck twenty and could whip a 30 man pro gate at washougal against the larsons and, eric hall, jim anderson ect. that kid was just a magician!!! bad boy lifestyle ruined him....but i swear.....in 85 when washington/oregon was fat loaded with mega pro's of nat caliber...this lil bastard just flat rippedveverybody. up hp hill at shougal, he was so small, u'd have thought he'd have just figured he'd have flew off the bike, but he was unreal. overnight, he went missing to parties, larsons, hall, anderson...who all ripped reg top 10's in the nats took over....then larry ward came in off 80's and took over. rookie year in 88, larry and larocco on support yamahas at 16 killed everybody local and pulled top 3's at the nats. next year larry was fact honda. but between 83-85...jim anderson, eric hall on 125's and eaton on 500's all from washington just ripped big top 3 to 7 nat finishes.....and this dude scott tyler that didn't follow the series would do washougal on a cr 500 and be top 10....he was so gifted. wash state was nuts in that era.

Also Mike Bell from the Northwest made the 250 main that year & Brett Woodring I believe made the 125 main along with Tony Graves and some other fast NW pros......some guys got stuck on I5 due to the snow and didn't make it,so it opened
up some spots for the local guys.

I was also there the at the last race that Larry won up there.
Went to them all I think from 78-79ish when the had double headers to the last one).

Also,Smail was a bad ass!
Remember the old McCormick double at PIR on the far side of the track?
I'm pretty sure Lance cleared that double before Jason was even on a 125.
I remember seeing Lance do it during press day 1990 the Thursday before the national.
That was when lance had that short little airport shuttle looking school bus rig.....
They took sharpies and wrote Smail and his number all all over it.

Don`t remember that double but Lances little van thing was crazy, I remember him and Chris Neal rolling around in that thing for a while. I saw Lance put bikes in some mains over the years that were pretty junky. He knew how to twist it though and his long legs made up for lack of if any suspension work lol

I think some of the best races though were the Huffman, MaCormick, Ulven battles
