The article does not mention he also managed AMA Pro Racing SX and MX for a couple years.

Will never forget the incident at 1977 British 500cc Grand Prix at Farleigh Castle. Steve was Honda Team manager and appointed to FIM jury. He was convinced Bob Wright’s works CCM was oversize and was wrestling with mechanic John Baynham to seize bike to measure it. Situation ended when Baynham clocked him with a right hand and bike never got measured!

Ironically years later FIM allowed 450cc 4 strokes to compete against 250cc 2 strokes.

My sincere condolences 💐 for family and friends.

Heard that story from Jon B first hand early this year.

"Clocked" is rather politer than the word he used!.

Yeah, and he famously celebrated the class name change to Supercross and Supercross Lites.

There was also that incident where Bob Wright's mechanic allegedly put a chain in the airbox after a GP so the bike would pass the minimum FIM weight limit.

I was at the 1977 Farleigh GP too and we were sat down on the grass along the pit straight just a few yards from Steve Whitlock having a one-to-one with Graham Noyce. I could just hear Noyce saying how bad the Maico was. The next season Whitlock signed him for Honda and he won the 500 title the following year.

RIP. But I'm never forgetting the fuel regulation point pulling of '04-'06 seasons.

Is that John Baynham as in Julia Baynham’s dad?

No idea Rob, sorry. (Was she Alec Wright's secretary?)

Point of order - isn't it Whitlock, not Whitelock?

You do not have to forget it. You just shouldn’t mention it here. That’s low class.

RIP, Steve.
