Can we delete the down vote button?

Dude, you’re crashing out over downvotes. Maybe a ride on the tractor or a look at the sky will get your mind right. 

This is my point. You’re the problem man. You guys that can’t help yourselves from name calling and just being an internet dickhead. You’re an internet troll man. Idc how long you’ve been on here. Scrub through your posts, they’re insane. 

Your ego is getting hurt by the downvotes. You want to type mean ass shit without seeing what people think of it… let’s be real here. 

Why would anyone care about somebody they have never known, will probably never really meet, and never even know their real name whether they up or down vote what they say on a moto conversation site?

Dude, do you really think the down votes here have an effect on the greater good of the sport? You think some groups "weaponize it"??

The vibe here has nothing to do with the down votes and whether or not they are anonymous. Who cares what the basically fictional persona behind a username you've created in your mind thinks about what you post on a forum?

You say you don't need a safe space but that's exactly what you're advocating for. It's an internet forum, enjoy it for a few minutes a day and then go on with real life.

I’ve heard all of the reasons why they have down votes anonymous and none of them hold any water.  They should either make both up vote and down votes, visible for everyone to see, or better yet, completely do away with down votes altogether.

The down votes are clearly being abused, they serve no real purpose, they do not promote dialogue, and there are no net positive benefits that comes from having them. 

The administrators know this, they’ve been told this, and they keep them despite all of that.  So my guess is they don’t want fruitful dialogue on this forum, and they don’t want genuine discussion. Those types of things don’t create more views and clicks.  

You are one of the biggest cry babies on this website, of course you would want the thumbs down feature to go away. 

Why do you put any weight behind a downvote? I find it much easier and polite to just downvote a post than to call you a dumbass in the process. Do you like the humiliation or something?

I open collapsed downvoted threads, read them, and give them one more downvote.

I stated the reasons why I don’t agree with the down vote button and you’re only response is a personal attack. 

Perhaps instead of down voting, you should do like I do with you most of the time, which is to just simply ignore you because you’re not worth the time or effort to even down vote. 

Some people have legitimate reasons for down voting. For example, the post is really bad or they really do disagree with it.  Some people lurk more than they post and they don’t want to engage with the post.

The problem is, is that it’s now being abused.  Posts or responses that make perfect sense are being heavily downloaded either because they don’t like the person being discussed or they don’t  like the person posting. So they are not basing their down vote on the content of the post itself.  I think it gives the weak- minded a way to pat themselves on the back.  

I don’t like the titles and stuff being hidden from downvotes. That to me is a little weird. The downvote itself though, I could care less. If I even mention 38 in a slightly positive way I already know it’s getting 600 downvotes lmao. That’s just the internet.

I’ve been around a little while. Downvotes haven’t affected me at all. 

I assumed down votes are anonymous for safety reasons so that someone who's unstable doesn't track down and murder those who're downvoting them (or break their windshield or something).

I say leave the down votes anonymous.

I did not say that anyone who downloads a post that makes sense or that is reasonable is a bad actor. I already stated that there are legitimate reasons to download a post.  However, there are bad actors that abuse the down vote and it’s not an uncommon thing here.  

Also, it’s not that I put weight on an up vote or a down vote. My life goes on just fine with or without it.  It’s just right there on the screen for me to see and I’ve stated my reasons why I disagree with having an anonymous down vote so perhaps you should take your own advice and not put so much weight in the argument.  

What do you mean by ‘abuse’ the downvotes?  I’ve probably been downvoted as many times as any member of this forum, or at least in the top 10 (I don’t think that downvoting was an option during the times of Big Lenny, Oldfart, or P). Not a single time have I been downvoted and thought of it as ‘abuse’ in any way, shape, or form…….

OP is right, place was much better before the voting system. I don't post much anymore because its just a super negative place and most of the guys I like don't post much anymore.

What if downvotes never resulted in anything being hidden? That, and removing the anonymity might be good changes.

I don’t want anything censored, but I’ll absolutely downvote a dumb comment. 

Making downvotes  so they showed the names  would likely just add to the division.  Or fuel feuds between posters on here.   

Some people are going to downvote just to bother people if that's their thing.  So I don't think that attaching a name to the vote would really change things.  All it would do is make it feel more personal. And the trolls that do it to get a reaction would do it even more.

I don't mind the downvotes now, at first I was thinking that making them show names would be a good idea. But after watching what posts get down voted, I changed my mind.   

Its as much for driving engagement as it is to get opinions on what's posted.  If a post is collecting a giant amount of downvotes it will bring attention to it and then the admins can look at it and get an idea of why the downvotes are there. And see if its just people piling on, or more of a real consensus of people truly disliking what's being said. And the site admins can see what types of opinions and content will do well on the site. 

Its just a part of some of the valuably data that the site collects to help sell adds and create content that we will all enjoy. It has been said multiple times that the downvotes are not really here for the posters as much as they are for the people deciding what to put on the site itself.  

It's a number next to a symbol of a downturned hand. It's not real. It won't hurt you. I like to use it as a tool to see of I either need to rethink my opinion, or I just caught some strays of whatever the current rabid mob topic is. Making them non anonymous just gives weirdos who care about made up internet points too much someone to be a dick to.

And you can all stop being so soft. I do not understand all the people crashing out over it, demanding it be made public or demanding it gets removed because... I don't really know.

Sometimes I’ll downvote every reply to a thread just to see if someone gets up in arms about it because to me it’s funny, I haven’t done it in a while though.

I think if you Down Vote it should display your username but also your last race result.   That'll quiet the down thumbs real quick when you people get outed like that.
