This thread is fuking RAD, especially this picture.

Really cool pics  Tricka.  Seem to be about the same age and I would have killed to have had the dirt bikes you did. Parents weren’t about it so all I had was bmx back then.

Thanks. Yeah, because I was a Moto kid , my dad wouldn't let me rip the skateboard bowl without a lid . I was the only  on a BMX or a skateboard that wore a helmet. That was the rules other than that one here where I must've ripped it off when dad  wasn't around lol. This is a cook brothers. I also had a PK mini Ripper, a Vector and a factory Kuhahara. The Vector was next level technology, but it was too stiff. It didn't flex enough to get the snap I needed out of the transitions in the skateboard bowl. I wish I had photos of it. It was a long downhill snake bowl where you could catch mega air over the transition humps, and then rip big air out of the bowl at the bottom. It was a great spot.

So sick.  Not only were my parents not into me riding moto but they weren’t supportive of the bmx either so whatever name brand parts I could barter, I would.  Was lucky enough to build a decent Mongoose through trading and eventually ended up with a couple and later traded for a chromoly Race Inc. then a GT Pro Series.  So many memories, so little pictures. Parents weren’t the photogenic type either…My uncle would tote me with him to all the moto tracks and I would drool over the YZ and RM 80’s of the 70’s  but 70’s and 80’s bmx hold a special place in my heart.  Absolutely love anything moto, bmx, skateboard related of the 70’s and 80’s and I’d go back in time to those years if there was a way. Thanks for the trip through memory lane.

For a pic from 1974 the resolution is pretty incredible. Do you recall the camera brand?

It was dad's he bought in the early 60s. He gave it to me and I used it until about 1980. Then I bought a modern SLR that I could change lenses.

It was a Argus with a fixed 50mm lens. You had to get pretty close (like 15 - 20 feet) to get any good close up shots. My dad took all the ones of me from the late 60s to 1976 with it. I still have the camera. He is a pic.

That is so incredible that you still have it! Thank you for sharing that. Again, that resolution was pretty fantastic. That’s a great pic of you.

I don't know guys. I was sponsored by Carrera in 1983. They even paid contingency money at the nationals. But the tracks pretty much were always dusty back then and the open bottoms on those goggles weren't great in my opinion.

I loved the open bottom on the Carrera goggle. It was the only brand I could use without it fogging up.

This was my first motocross race in May of 1976 when I was a senior in high school.  We had 40 riders in the 125C class but a few dropped out after practice.  My mom took the Kodak Instamatic pictures.  I was racing a stock 1975 125 Honda Elsinore against a lot of other 125's that had much more suspension travel, (the beginning of the suspension revolution).  I managed to place 16th overall in my in my first race.  I don't remember my moto finishes but in my first moto I lost the lower right shock bolt and finished with the right shock just flapping around.

He was one of my heroes growing up.

I wonder how many of us had the 'Cycle Jumpers' book with Evel and Gary Wells...?

That was my first bike. Those Fox shocks had to have been a MAJOR upgrade. The stock sealed shocks were junk

The prices of old BMX bikes are bringing big money. I had many bikes, from Webco, Gary Little John, Redline and my most prestigious bike, a Factory SE Racing PK Ripper. I traded my 1980 RM125 for the PK Ripper after I graduated high school. The bicycle was raced by Rob Rupe (spelling ?) I don’t even remember what I did with it, but if I had it today, it would be worth $10K+.

I came across this ad for a bike that I don’t even remember seeing or hearing about-

Crazy to even think someone would pay this much, but I’m sure it’ll sell eventually…

I I got a XR75  in 1973 when I was 12. It seemed like almost every other kid on the block had some kind of motorized contraption. Behind my house you could ride for miles. It's still hard to fathom how much freedom we had. It's incomprehensible to me now, how our parents just let us go do dangerous and crazy shit from morning to evening without giving two shits. And if we got hurt or broke something, it was our fault and there was never a question of blaming someone or litigation. I'm not sure they even knew what a lawyer was. The absolute best of times! I started racing on a YZ100..then wen't to an RM250, a Montesa 360, the Maico 400 in my post picture ,then a KTM420. Favorite bike was surprisingly the Montesa. The Maico was clearly the best bike overall Raced BMX for years as well

I always wanted to find one of these late 70s DeCoster BMX bikes. Hard to find a good one and they are pricey.
