Some of the 2003 MXGP drama between Pichon and Everts was unbelievable. Both were prior year champs (250 vs Open Class) and when the two champions merged, Pichon absolutely rode the wheels off his RM250 to keep up with Evert's Rinaldi YZF, truly amazing riding.

I think the Austrian GP was the one where they both finished within a second of each other, Pichon mounted a charge and nearly got him in the final corner.

History knows Everts won the battle in the end, but Pichon will be remembered as a 250 2t master.

- This was one of the most impressive races of Dungey's career, where he legitimately caught and passed Villopoto for the win. I don't remember any other races like this for Dungey.

Dungeys ride at Southwick in 2011 will always be a favourite of mine. To start almost a full lap down and finish 7th - on a brutal track - was amazing.

How about the day that Dungey finished second overall in Colorado with a broken NECK? Unreal determination and talent.

MXdN Spain - 1996 I think:

Moto1: Lamson (1) 125

Moto2: McGrath (1) 250

Moto3: McGrath (1) 250

1986 mxdn Omara

No doubt an unpopular opinion; but while O'Mara's 86 performance was iconic,  I'd put Lamson's outright win in 96 above it.

I get it, but Pichon (and his Dad) are rather douchey and that stains things.

Unfortunately true for more than one rider in this thread ....

Dave Thorpe at the British 500 GP at Farleigh Castle in 1985. Crashed in the first turn (with Merv Anstie) and came from last to first in a few laps. Incredible!

Long races tho (40+2) and Malherbe got him for the moto win and the OA.

Also, can't forget Maler at the 1994 MXdN in Roggenburg. He dropped down to 125s and won his class in both motos and took Team GB to the win.

Cheers,

Simon

Everts at 1998 Foxhills MXdN - a complete clinic for every other rider on the gate.

A2 in I wanna say 2013? With Reedy on the Kawi coming from like 7th to first..

As a Reed fan that was the most exciting race..

2011 Atlanta was probably the most wild and exciting race in the new era.

It was A2 2014; great race.

While we’re on Reedy; getting up after the chadapult and still finishing the day with the points lead is still the gutsiest ride I’ve ever seen.

Also RC and Chad basically lapping the whole field in SX 2003.

259 at Budds on a 125 against the blue 250Fs, 40th to 1st, after tucking his shirt back in.

We have Steve Boniface to thank.

Yes, 2014. A3 was big for Reed too. Lead every lap maybe. I think he passed RV for the lead on lap 1.

In the same vein, Rick Ryan, 1987 Daytona Supercross

I need to add that Ward's win was less about track conditions and more about his skills and the fact it was in front of his WA fans.

Who is your Mount Rushmore for the best single event/race performances?.

For me, I started paying attention in early 2000 and never paid enough attention to MXGP so my list is probably missing races I'm not familiar with but I thought this would be an interesting discussion.

I'm sure there are races I'm not remembering at the moment but the single event performances that immediately come to mind are

Ryan Villopoto - 2007 MXDN 250
- Absolutely dominating both motos on a 250f vs 450s. How could you not include this?

James Stewart - 2014 Toronto Supercross
- Stewart has a lot of impressive performances but this one stands out to me by the way he was able to pick apart the riders and come back to win.

Ricky Carmichael - 2006 Millville
- Lapping the entire field is insane. Although it was a mud race, I don't think this has ever been done so it's hard to not include this.

Zach Osborne - 2017 250 SX East Las Vegas Finale
- To go down in the first corner, come back and make an epic pass on Savagty in the second to last corner for the championship was one of the most exciting races I've ever watched

Honorable Mentions

James Stewart - 2011 Daytona Supercross Wall Jump
- This would be better off on a Mount Rushmore based on most memorable moments considering his result wasn't great.

Ryan Dungey - 2013 Minneapolis Supercross
- This was one of the most impressive races of Dungey's career, where he legitimately caught and passed Villopoto for the win. I don't remember any other races like this for Dungey.

Ryan Villopoto - 2011 Monster Energy Cup
- To win three races for the million makes it hard to not list as an honorable mention.

You didn't even mention the guys that beat the 500s on a 125. There's a thread in here about the 1996 MXoN you should check out lol

That is a really overlooked race when it comes to moto history. Lammy flat smoked everyone. Didn’t a few guys start complaining about him jumping the big downhill double, so he started throwing heel clickers during practice?

Yes, the Euros complained about the quad and asked the FIM to remove it. So they took out two jumps - the middle two - and turned it into a double. The American riders kept doubling it anyway.

Didn't Stefan Everts race (and win?) all three classes at an MXGP one day? That's legendary.
EDIT: Yes, he did: https://www.mxlarge.com/news/everts-and-ernee-triple-crown
