I feel it's about on par with a 250E or 250W Supercross title. Important, but not a true, full-fledged National Championship. It's more important in some ways, but less important in others.
For the 250 guys, it's a better way to settle the score than E/W shootouts. For the 450s, it's maybe not that big a deal.

I’m thinking the champions that get to take the”winner’s check” to the bank feel quite legitimate. 😎

The purse blows every series in the world completely out of the water. You guys complain about riders not being paid enough and when they finally do, you bitch about SMX not being legit.

Exactly everone complaining about riders not getting paid enough .Which they are way under paid .This series gives them a chance at making some momey and to be honest the racing in Carson was really good and Exciting they did a good job on the track design also ..I think the 250 riders are still getting ripped off since 1st and 2nd place in 450 class are paid more than the entire 250 field ..The 250s usually put on a better show in my opinion

It’s a 3 races series, it’s dumb to call it a “championship”, it should be something like “The Monster SMX Triple Crown”. I has as much weight as a “World SX” title in the 2000’s. It doesn’t crown the year, it’s not represnetative of the year, even though the fast ones are still up front as they should, it’s a quick, 3 races mini series.

Pretty sure Levi feels pretty damn legit.

Does Ricky Johnson’s 1986 250 National title count?  It was only a 5 race series that year, while the 500s had 6 races and the 125s had 11……

It's already dying. Once WSX closes the doors, they'll shut this down.

It'll be a footnote of mx history.

It’s a novelty title. Cool little resume padder.

But hearing them reference it as a world championship and saying it makes him the best in the world is just shit. It’s only 3 rounds. It has a gimmick points system and it’s not a world title.

Take away the prize money and none of the guys would care. It’s quick easy cash though with all podium positions paying incredibly well. I enjoy watching it though. Just disagree with how they try to pump it up.

listening to post race interviews, most of the guys sound like they just want to get the season over with - without getting hurt.

SMX ‘World’ champions this year have been for the guys who didn’t get it done in SX or outdoors and are trying to salvage something to end their season on a high. Cole is young and just wants/knows he can prove he is just that much better than them all by winning that last race.

Seems like such a weird way to end the year. A single race at a sick venue like that for all the marbles would be a cool way to do it. Triple crown, triple points, and they could have been finished 2 weeks ago.

Its a money maker for the promoter and riders. Can't be mad at that, especially for the riders.

Well, some of the the fastest riders in the world was there competing. Legit race. Will not miss it when it goes away but right now for Jorge, it was perfect.

World championship, no but Jorge already was a real world champ x 4 so who cares.

As a fan, we saw pretty entertaing racing, so legit in that aspect.  As for a titile, thats up for the racers to decide, pretty sure the winners think it is. Prado 1 mil richer, kept Deegs from winning, yeah sure he is thrilled!

It’s the closing time and you don’t want to go home alone title.

I like the idea of a combined SX/MX champion but it needs to be implemented differently.

For me, for individual titles, it's something like:

  • S tier - 450 Supercross, MXGP, 450 Pro Motocross all pretty much on the same level
  • A tier - 250 pro Motocross, MX2
  • B tier - 250 regional supercross
  • C tier - SMX at the top, then things like WSX (would be a bit higher if they had more rounds and better riders doing the full series), big established national championships like Canadian nationals, Dutch masters, or any of the other national championships in Europe where lots of the top dogs compete
  • D tier - one off races like Paris, monster cup back in the day, RBSR. Still cool to win but can't really call them a championship

So yeah, by far the lowest value of any of the pro championships in the US, including regional SX

Here’s my issue with it’s legitimacy, Prado won the SMX WorldChampionship this year and I’m happy for him and his triumphant turnaround from last season.

He won the title by 7 points over Deegan even though Deegan won two of the three races. That’s the same seven point advantage he had over  before the first gate drop. How can you consider anything a legitimate championship when the racers don’t start with an even playing field?

Any semblance of legitimacy that SMX could have claimed is negated by the playoff points structure.

I think a race win in the playoffs should be included for career statistics.  The championship itself should not.

As an aside, the Ridgedale track was the closest to a true SX/MX hybrid and was genuinely fun to watch.  I'm not a fan of Danger Boi, but watching him absolutely send it on what was easily the roughest track in the playoffs said more about his potential upward career trajectory than any race thus far in his career.

In all these years, Webb has had some great rivalries, but he never laid his hands on anybody, no matter how heated things got. Well, until a week ago… Just an example of how they ""“don’t care”"" about this SMX championship lol

Absolutely agree, except the money

No whoops, less technical tracks, etc. End of season when the 450 guys are dog tired, nursing injuries, etc.

It’s just a one-off series, but it begs the question - why couldn’t the promoters of SX and MX increase the purse of SX MX races payout? (With non-OEM factory riders in mind)

Yo, I've said this myself. The race wins should go toward career totals. Theyre legit. 250s are racing the entire field unlike regional sx.

If he wins this every year he could end his career with more world titles than caroli or Everts.

It's a Mickey Mouse title. How does a rider win 2 out of 3 of the races and lose it bc of how the seeding works? Just bring back the monster cup

It's a title you have to qualify for during SX and MX just to basically even race it and have any legit shot at winning. While it's only 3 races, only the top racers ever win that proved themselves all year. So, I think it's fairly legit.

They shouldn’t be counted imo. And in 5 years when smx playoffs go away they will be forgotten
