Since having my hand surgery 3 days ago I Stumbled on a like new Kuat NV 2.0 yesterday close to us on facebook marketplace so we now have a bike rack that can handle 2 E bikes weight.

Specialized dealer called and has my wifes Como so we are headed for her demo ride and more than likely will buy it on Wednesday so I will see what they have for me there there but I also found another dealer close by that has a new 2025 Levo 4 so we will probably have our 2 E bikes next week.

What brand, model and how much for that bike rack?

I am looking for one I could leave on, but still let my tail gate down when not in use.  Any ideas?  My current Bell (non e bike) rack allows a toggle out of the way, so I can let the gate down with the rack attached.

Not E-bike related but,

Was at a friend's house this weekend.

Went downstairs and over in the corner of a storage room was, A seldom ridden 92 specialized stumpjumper. In mint condition.

All original, even the tyres, but for a derailleur replacement, up to an XTR.

Told him he was hiding a damn collector's item down there.

Hey, speaking of e-mountain bikes, what are you guys wearing for pads and protection ? I started with an open face helmet and some knee pads. After testing that stuff out pretty good I switched to a Full face TLD helmet, g-form elbow and forearm pads, G form pants with the hip and thigh pads, knee and shin pads and some padded gloves. I figure the hydration pack doubles as a back protector ?
Our group has guys from each end of the spectrum, one guy looks like a linebacker, another guys in a t shirt shorts an open face helmet. I lean more toward the I’d rather sweat and bleed side. IMG 3055 2

Funny you should ask.  I wear full gear, Shoei helmet, alot of protective gear for moto, including neck and knee braces.  For my bike, I only started wearing a bike helmet a few years ago.  Shorts, Oakley wraparound glasses, workout shirts, and Vans in the summer.  In the Winter, I switch to Fox Ranger pants, add gloves, and a Nike Livestrong wind breaker.  Yes, I am old.

I have only had the Turbo Levo for a month or so, no crashes, but I have had some near front tire washouts, particularly on those nasty sweet gum balls, when I am tired.

The pic above was from yesterday. The local trail builder / maintenance guys have been doing an awesome job of weed whacking the trails clear, but the dead grass left on the trails is like ice. We need a 2nd guy with a blower to clear off all the dead stuff. I came around the previous corner going pretty good, went about an inch wide, got into the dry dead stuff on the side of trail, lost the front and wound up landing on my back where all the branches are laying flat beyond me in the pic. My buddy was too slow on the draw to get a good crash pic. I knew I landed in tick-ville and was in a large hurry to get out. 😮

Has anyone tried that "Cased" riding gear ?

A few good rack systems out there but In my opinion One Up builds the best mtb racks. Strong, light weight and fold up really small for storage. Only bad part is they are like gold for thieves

Oohh I’m probably the guy gt80rider and the analog / non e-bike guys hate. 😂. I’ll occasionally use trail mode on the flats or slight inclines if I’m trying to go further than 22-25 miles. But for the most part I’m in boost, and we’re in full race mode. I know the analog guys don’t like getting passed on uphills, that’s a fact. And I get it, it’s like surfing a short board and then guys with longboards show up and start catching more waves than them. Some are cool and friendly and will pull over to let me go by, and some will ignore the fact I’m behind them and block and move over on wider sections to make sure I don’t pass them. They usually seem pretty miserable compared to the guys loving life on the pedal assist bikes. I’m talking class 1, no throttles. Those guys are always smiling and happy.  Our crew treats the rides more like a moto than an endurance race.  Here’s this mornings quick putt. Started with a lap around the "Plump" track, then 8 plus miles of singletrack. I was done by 10am.  I love this bike and luckily for me I don't give a shit about the guys who don't like emtb's. I could not care any less what they think. (Is that the correct term Falcon ?)  If they ever want to question me about it I tell them I'm 67, show them my x-rays, then tell them to get off my lawn and go away, I have some clouds to yell at.😆

https://strava.app.link/cLGdCtVaN5b

Yes, that's correct. If you cared at all, it would be possible to care less. Since you do not, it is not possible to care any less. Hence, you couldn't care less.

Some people get confused by the term and say, "I could care less." That means they care some amount more than zero

As for me, I can't wait to get an e-bike. I'm going to wait though; I'll probably abandon the pedal bike right away when I buy one!

99% of the time - regular mtb helmet and gloves. only full face/knees/elbows/chest if im riding lifts. it is just too hot otherwise.

Saturday We went ready to buy the New 2026 Levo aluminum model MSRP $5000 for $4200 out the door that I have seen listed on marketplace for a couple months and red flags started popping up when I was told the “dealership” is no longer a Specialized dealer and then they couldn’t even unlock it to see battery life or into the test ride mode for me to make sure its all 100% working in the parking lot. They didn’t even have pedals to put on it to do that.

Kind of odd when the guy literally said he didn’t have time to do this sale and if I didn’t buy it someone else would. My wife and I were both laughing when we got in the truck to drive away.

Went straight to the dealership we purchased my wife’s bike so I will be getting a 2027 in a couple weeks for $5000 when it comes in and it has a life time warranty for free.

I was told by friends the pedals and seat probably won't come on the bike, as their just cheapos on there for demo purposes. The shop I bought from just left them after I offered to take bike without them. The other stuff is sketchy, you have to register the bike with Specialized to activate the warranty and gain access to Mastermind TCU app controller. If someone else has already registered it in their name that would keep anyone else possessing the bike from theft, etc. He's probably right someone else will buy it at that price, but you likely dodged a bullet passing on it.

Agreed. I have put about 400 miles on mine since the last week in July.  Its fantastic!

I figured out how to put it in Class 3 (28mph) mode today.  Hopefully I can work on the jumps with the tractor as this blazing hot summer winds down, and we get some much needed rain!

Nice! What model is that? Looks like Marzocchi suspension. For sure it's got a bigger battery (and likely motor) than mine does based on the size of front frame downtube.

Oh yeah, what's a paddle bike?

This is the $5000 Levo alloy G4 and everything is pretty much the same frame, motor and battery as other alloy and carbon except they have different suspensions.

Im only planning on plonking around so Marazocchi suspension should be good.

I edited this because I couldn't find an image with the bike with a belt. So I'm not sure if one exists.

The prototype ebike that Honda had on display was really amazing. That bike they came out with seems to be a joke in the EMTB crowd. I happen to have a Shimano 801 motor on my EMTB and its a fun bike. But now there are motors with almost double the power.

They had an internal gearbox aluminum framed prototype that real bicycle enthusiasts were  loving.   And while I love my EMTB, it is 3 years old, and putting out a new bike with that motor isn't going to give the bike a great shot at selling well.  Hopefully Shimano has a new motor on the way and that Honda knows that this bike may not be a great seller as is and has planned for that.  Honda can make an amazing EMTB and I hope they stick around long enough to show what they can really do.

I like how the bike looks and would love to try one. But I worry its gonna be a flop with real bike people. I hope that after there are some riding reviews that it ends up being a really good bike and that Honda stays working on bikes and they make a transmission with belt drive or some really innovative tech in the future.

And Congrats Lumpy on the fresh Specialized!! Love the color!

I like that Red on your bike.  My bike is a strange color that  I only got because  it was the last one in my size. And I can wrap it at some point. But that red on Yours is really nice!

This is not my exact bike, but this is the bike I got , just a stock photo.  The color is named Infinity red and I was hoping it would be more red when it came. But its more brown than red.  And looks just like the color in the photo. I was hoping it would be one of those times the color was differnt from the photo. Like  how sometimes gear is way off from the color in a catalog.   I have flat pedals and an acerbis front fender and handguards on mine .Mine is also an XL and I'm not sure what size this one is.   Mine is a little muddy from riding it and it was easier to grab a photo online quick.   I got an Acerbis bike stand that holds it well enough for basic tuning and cleaning. It was pretty inexpensive too at the time. It isn't as good as a full on work stand, but You can take one wheel off at a time and it will hold the bike. Either by the frame or one of the wheels.

Its my first carbon frame. I always had aluminum frames in the past and wanted to try a carbon fiber frame. I love it, more power would be nice. But I wanted to get into shape riding it so less power is probable better for me. Its enough that it helps and makes it fun.  I just wanna play with my gearing at some point . It feels like its gears too low.

this is the model I bought in May. Mine is an ugly military green color but that was my only option as these SLs sold out in inventory and stock around the country. 44lbs and some higher end components than I really needed/wanted but I love it.

Its kind of a reddish copper color and its growing on me 😆

The auto extending/position seat from a lever on the bars is taking some getting used to. I have a phone mount and a rear fender that should be here tomorrow.

The handlebars are very straight and putting some pressure on my wrists so and not sure but might be getting some bars with a little more sweep.

I have similar issues with wrists (both Carpals done) and also neck problems from car whiplash accidents. Here's what I did: stock handlebars were 30mm rise and I think 8mm sweep (pullback) and 31.5 in wide. I bought some DIETY brand 80mm bars for more upright riding position taking pressure off my wrists. They were also 31.5 in wide. People advised cutting them down to about 28 in wide but I wanted to try as is 1st. I found steering to be a little "twitchy" especially going slow (turns) or more technical sections where I was looking down in front of me and constantly over correcting. Ended up taking 1" off both ends and it helped a lot for stability👍 Deity also makes "Fat" grips for people with bigger hands that are dual compound sticky/soft that also helped a ton. 2 of my buddies bought them after trying mine. They are direct bolt on replacement.

make sure you get correct diameter bars for your clamp. Mine need to be 35mm, but I was sold 31.5 initially and had to go trade in for 35

Seat: getting used to dropper post is simple technique. From dead stop it should be down. Push off to get a little roll going and hit the lever immediately while standing a little and it will hit your butt. Get a couple rotations in and see how leg position feels on full extension. I'm 5'7" with rather short legs and fully extended is best height for me. When coming to a stop, drop the post completely and set feet on the ground. I also got a wider comfort seat so the family jewels had more room and adjusted tilt and distance to preferred position.

Thats some good info Sounds like we are about the same body size I have a 29-30 inch inseam but I have smaller hands with short fingers.

My sales guy helped me set up the bike so seat height is click and it’s at top position. Kind of a wild idea but these specialized bikes must have engineers that are riders that think outside the box!

yep, same inseam. My upper arms are kinda short too. Weight varies between 180-185 depending on seasons and breaks from the gym routine. I have S3 frame size when chart showed I should have S2 ideally so that distance from steering stem to seat is important for comfort and handling. Another thing I did was adjust handlebar rotation from stock. Propped up bike against wall and stood back a few feet. Angle of handlebars was rotated forward of fork angle and we already have the clamp sticking out forward maybe 30-50mm. Theorized that might be contributing to the twitchy feel with oversteering. I rotated bars back to inline with fork angle like I do on MX bikes. Then optimized distance from neutral position on seat to bars. All that really helped for me to get comfortable and forget about setup while riding.

Happy Trails!

The dropper seats are so handy.   Getting the seat height right is important so you get maximum pushing with least effort. And You want it so your knees are just slightly bent at full extension. It makes it feel more like walking VS doing squats .   If your not riding at the right height its harder to pedal . Seat height on Ebikes isn't as vital as pedal bikes but still the perfect height makes the ride more enjoyable.

The way that RDnutz described using the dropper is the way I've used it too.  And also on more technical trails while standing you may want to drop it to keep it from hitting you in the ass.

Setting sag and air pressure in the forks and shock is another area that can improve the ride on trails and terrain that your really using it. In my case I'm at the extreme end of the weight range so its important to get the pressure right and keep it there.

It is so crazy how far MTB's have come since the earlier bikes. I had some of the first rockshox forks, I had an ASV linkage fork . I think it was ASV.  How it was all elastomers back then and not much air or spring.   And now the suspension is so good . And the brakes have so much more control.  I wish I had a bike like this when I could really ride well. I would have done some fun stuff. These days I'm a little too brittle to take the hits I used to be able to take. And a little worn out from all of those hits.  But the Ebike allows me to go out and ride fast enough that its still fun even in horrible shape and makes it easier to push myself knowing I can bail myself out with the assist if I get too tired.

Hope you  and your wife  have a lot of fun riding!

I'm one of those guys that does minimal adjustments changes to their bicycles or motorcycles. On my Turbo Alloy Levo I have put air in the shock. Of course Tire pressure is critical. Have not adjusted the bars at all. I like the way they are. The only thing I did do was switch the brake lever to the right side like a motorcycle. I don't like having to think about which is my front brake after riding motorcycles for 60 years.

Then, I have a good friend of mine who bought a 87CR250 and 06CRF450 over the years, just like I had. Of course, he threw every part on it that he could possibly spend money on, while mine was mostly STOCK. Oh and his E-bike same deal!

Some people just love to spend EXTRA money on their stuff. my belief is that the engineers did a pretty good job designing this stuff and just minor adjustments and tweaks are good for me.

Maybe if I had an unlimited bank account, I would go for all the extra goodies. 😜
