Fox vs Alpinestars

I like Astars because the Tech 7s are the most comfortable boot ever and for me it's a "rider's" brand. Fox is sold in malls and what not. If you wear Astars apparel, it's only riders and enthusiasts "know" you're about that life. 

That's all I wear. Good quality good looking stuff too.

Cannot blame the boot -  Professional motocross and supercross racer Eli Tomac wore Alpinestars Tech 10 boots that were customized by removing specific restrictive parts like the flexion bridge to gain better ankle mobility and bike feel 

IMO -  GAERNE - Last longer than either - A Stars soles are made from chocolate.

Why don't more pros wear Sidi? I think they are some of the best boots and last forever.

Money?

I would love to be able to try other boots, but nobody makes them  in my size except Alpinestars.

 It's funny how often I've told customers that Gearne boots will outlast the Alpinestars by a lot. And nobody seems to care.  Some of the people that ride a lot are buying 2 or 3 pairs a year. They rotate and wear different colors and sell them before they get worn out. But then the customers who wear Gearne will have them for years.  As a dealer, Alpinestars stuff sells way way better.  Its crazy to see them have such a hold on boots for so long.

I think the production tech 10 is a great , safe and protective boot, just like Gearne SG12 or SG22's  . The top pros have theirs customized   since they often will wear brand new boots that are not broken in. They also have custom made pants, jerseys etc.

  If I  was able to get my size I would love to try a SG 12 or 22 , or Leatt 5.5 or 6.5 . From what I hear I think I would like those boots. I've hear great stuff about Sidi boots too, but for whatever reason its more off road riders that like them VS motocross guys. And from what I hear from customers I think I would like the Gearne or Leatt boots better than a Sidi , if I was able to try them. Which unfortunately nobody but Alpinestars makes a 16 so unless that changes I have 1 choice  for what boots to wear. Tech 7. and the choice is what color, black or white.... They do make my size in a Tech5 and maybe a 3 too. But I don't like to cheap out on boots or helmets , so tech 7's are the only boot that fits..  

They're not involved in US racing support, at least not anymore. Malcolm's deal is through their US distributor, who also distributes SHOEI.

Gaerne SG-12s/22s all day for me. They’re incredibly durable, offer excellent protection, and seem to last forever. The only real downside, aside from the break-in period, is that the feel of the pegs, shifter, and brake pedal takes a little getting used to. Other than that, I don’t think anything really comes close. I mostly ride off-road and have taken some pretty hard hits to my feet from rocks and roots. I’m convinced that if I had been wearing anything other than my SG-12s, I probably would’ve ended up with an injury at some point.

Before switching to Gaerne, I ran Fox Instincts and initially loved them. They were super comfortable, lightweight, and had great feel on the pegs. The problem was the soles—they wore out way too quickly. I got tired of constantly replacing them and eventually moved on to Gaerne.

As for Alpinestars, I’ve personally stayed away from them. I’ve heard too many stories about durability issues and them wearing out prematurely to justify spending the money and trying a pair.

For somebody that's not putting 100's of hours a year on a bike they will last well. But if Your riding multiple times a week, You'll go through them. I used to have 3 pairs I had in rotation that I would constantly have 1  or 2 pairs getting fixed and almost never had all 3 wearable at one time. That was when I was riding 5 or 6 days a week and doing lots of moto's.  Going through  a 5 gallon can of gas each time.  in the summer when there was enough daylight to ride that much after work. 

They are a lot better than they used to be. But still not as durable as Gearne .  Yet still sell 10 or more pairs of  Alpinestars for every Gearne .  Its wild to see how dominant they are. 

I think I can actually ride better in Alpinestar boots.  Thats the thing.  I know Gaerne or Sidi will outlast them.  But they feel clunky compared to Alpinestars. The Astars are superior with the rider to the bike interface.  I can turn a faster lap time in Astars.  And Gaerne has a lot of plastic on the inside at the top, just destroys graphics.  One more negative thing with Gaerne is that sewn on sole with the metal tip.  Ive had that tip get stuck or jammed somehow in my brake pedal when I couldn’t take my foot off the peg momentarily.  Not good in corners or over jumps.  

First thing I do with a new set of Gaerne's is remove the metal toe clip. 

I love my fox instincts. The soles do get beat, and I dont run raptor foot pegs or anything. When I need new boots, I will still buy another pair. Actually, a buddy bought the cheaper newer fox ones (motions?) And said they are pretty sweet. He was in sg10s before. Might try that to save some $$$.

The newer Sidis with the glued on soles are amazing, lightest boots on the market and I have crazy sharp foot pegs and after 30 hours the soles are in great shape somehow.

I had some gen 2 Instincts a while back that were amazing. Light, comfy like your favorite pair of shoes, and good peg feel. They were absolutely blown out after 10-15 hours for me though. Just too expensive for how long they lasted.

I've been buying T10s and flipping them on facespace every 6 months. Works out pretty well. 

Coenens wear Sidi. Well, until next year when they’ll be paid by A-stars. Why don’t more? Marketing budget is probably the biggest reason. 

I too really prefer my Sidis to my Tech 7s or Fox Instinct. 

I have a narrow foot and Sidi's are without a doubt more suited to a narrow foot and I like the amount of initial flex that they have without being to wimpy feeling as time goes on.  

Gaernes are very popular with a lot of folks, but for me they're not a good match for my narrow foot. I also thought they were too hard to break in and they never felt comfortable even after riding in them for awhile.  Was hard to feel anything with them on. 

Have never worn a pair of fox boots but they look comfy , seems they break down and lose some support? 

I love the Gaerne Fastback for the wide toe box and no break in time. 

Anybody wearing the SG22's ?  Anybody that wears them that can compare them to the SG12  or to a Tech 10 or Tech 7?   I always like to see real world feedback so I can help my local customers as much as possible when it comes to picking out the right boots.  And I have not heard a lot of real world  feedback on the SG22.   Most of the Gaerne's I see people in or that we sold are SG12's.  

Alpinestars Tech 7's are the quickest path to a catastrophic foot/ankle injury. Ive never put my foot into a less protective piece of junk in my life.
