Glen Helen………because Pala sucks.
Oh yeah it does! Sandy, dusty flat lot with a couple of huge piles of dirt. Who is being paid to keep that embarrassment on the schedule?
Though Glen Helen is not just some half-assed alternative. It does not try to be a Euro-anything. It defines the Great American Motocross Track! Massive, high-speed holeshot, huge 1st turn bank Talladega pays tribute to American NASCAR, huge Mount Saint Helen's hill reaches the clouds, he massive triple step-up is unequaled, all of thiese in the inimitable Southern California environment, ancestral home of MX in the US. We all love RedBud, 'Dilla and Millville, but as Americans we must pay Glen Helen its due. Hard to say why it's not on the schedule, but my personal suspicions list pride, (not the good kind), and greed as factors.

I went to ; Mount Morris, Red Bud, Millville, Unadilla and Ironman this summer, thoroughly enjoyed each one, overall I’d pick ‘Dilla as my comprehensive number one(this year) …..
It was at the Columbus SMX that i fully realized how damn much I enjoyed the great outdoors -and the variety and eclectic nature of this wonderful traveling moto circus.
Unadilla should be broken into "Old Unadilla" and "Groomed Unadilla".....the old track was much better and it's not close. I didn't vote but would pick the 2015 version of Glen Helen as the best track ever. It was radical.....
Had to slow it down. Was too fast.
California is NOT the ancestral home of MX in the U.S.A. Massachusetts is, and the Northeast was first into moto, and that is the truth.
One of the things I loved about GH is how many good viewing spots there were. Many spots you could see damn near the whole track

Agreed, but after the spores came first came from Europe as you correctly note, SoCal was the Petrie dish in which the fungus really grew.

I caught a video on YouTube of the 1980 250 USGP at Dilla that Howerton win. Gravity Cavity and the scew-U are original track features or am I wrong? Side note those dudes flew on those old piles they were riding. Their corner speed on them was wild. Bad mfers

I was raised at Unadilla, raced numerous races at Buds Creek, attended races at plenty of other national tracks but seeing Red Bud for the last American MXdN blew my mind.
Red Bud takes the cake
Thunder Valley leading is really surprising. I don't know if I'm out of touch or what but I never hear people talk about it as a great track and out of the current schedule I consider it middle of the road.
Agreed, hard to explain Thunder Valley so soundly beating traditional mainstays like Unadilla, High Point, Budds Creek and MILLVILLE? WTF.
Pit Row
There are prettier tracks and tracks that are more fun, but Glen Helen in its prime was the gnarliest track. Crazy steep hills, crazy fast triple step up, crazy rutted muddy straight… and sometimes challenging weather too.
Red Bud is by far the highest quality track and best overall facility.
Ironman was similar, but a notch behind.
Mt Morris is great for spectators, appropriate dose of red neck fans.
Southwick is a national treasure hot and humid as hell, crazy ass New England fans, and trackside legion beers.
I don't get the love for Red Bud. It is a terrible spectators track. I would take Dilla 10/10 times.
