Is Pit Bits safe in 2027? (New Feld RESTRICTIONS on media…on Michael!)

I don’t know about you, but…

Pit Bits is my favorite thing to come out of the media, ALL media, on a typical Saturday during Supercross. Hell, I’d even go as far as to say it’s some of the absolute best Moto-Porn! 🤣

But, as most of us have been reading since early this year…

Feld…and NBC, if I’m not mistaken…are changing the rules…RESTRICTING the use of images and recordings during the events for 2027.

So, I have one VERY important question:

Will we still get..

PIT BITS?!

I want the pics and Michael’s reporting on who’s running what and what Top Secret hardware is being utilized. I’m hopeful that we don’t lose one of our best features during Supercross.

Thoughts?

Yes, Pit Bits will be fine. There's a lot I don't fully understand about the 2027 guidelines and restrictions that were sent out yesterday morning. Supposed to learn more over the weekend; the doc is very confusing. Every team, media person, photographer, etc. that I spoke to yesterday has somewhat different interpretations of what we can and can't do now.

Until I have full clarity, I won't speak falsely about something from the guidelines. I'll say one thing, though: there will be fewer content creators/media guys at the races next year, even if these guidelines are read in the most positive terms.

The costs associated with all the licensing fees Feld now wants to charge teams, photographers, brands, etc., are potentially going to be crippling to the industry. I really hope my interpretation of the fees and how they stack up isn't accurate.

“Grow the sport!!” they said. “Learn from NASCAR!!” they urged. “We need to expand the appeal to non-current viewers!!” they appealed. “Quit catering to the redneck bro crowd!!” they snorted. “Bigger is BETTER!!” they chanted in legion.

Are we there yet….?

Man, that will be a real shame if this reduces and weakens media presence. There are some quality content creators out there giving us some unique footage and such.

What does Feld have to gain from this?

Where does Feld expect the money to come from? How does this help grow the sport? Or do they just want to monopolize the YouTube money and this is how they intend to do it?

This feels like the fed increasing interests rates while raising taxes hoping the economy will get stronger

All I know is that Feld is slowly making things worse. From the actual tracks(either Feld or AMA), to opening ceremonies, the new rules on media, and teams etc.  A lot of things are happening and not for the better

You've got people like the Lawrences with a person filming their day, putting it on polished viogs on youtube and making money. Feld wants all the money, so this is how they intend to tackle those sorts of things.

Pretty sure I read the Lawrences don't monetize their YouTube content.

Yes they do, they did not for a while, but they do now hence the changes to the music, they no longer use commercial music, its mainly reproduced music by other artists. It was confirmed by Tom on here recently I believe.

They do now. Tommy commented in another thread that he used to be able to use any music that he wanted as they didn’t monetize. That changed recently and he’s been forced to pick from a much smaller pool of audio tracks that they can use and still keep the YouTube money

They screw with Pit Bits and I’ll burn them down!

I really want to hear Why they are doing this and what they intend to achieve.

Figuratively burn down of course….

A lot of the same people complaining about this are also the people complaining that the sport needs to be more professional.

Like it or not, this is what professional series do. Not any joe schmoe with a YouTube channel can get credentialed for a Napcar race, nor any pro stick/ball event.

This is part of the price of so called progress.

I don't like it, but that's because I like the honestly amateur level that our sport lives at. The accessibility directly correlates with the relatability to the common racers. Get fast enough and even with minimal support you too could make a night show or the 40 man gate at a National. That's not the case in professional level motorsports.

If these licensing prices are accurate, I can go shoot NASCAR or F1 for cheaper.

So how does this effect a guy like Moranz who uses his weekly sx vlog to highlight his sponsors? Craig, McAdoo, Webb, just off the top of my head also film their day.

Will racer vlogs be against the rules? Or are they fine as long as they do not film actual qualifying/racing?

If that ends up being the case, that's a major f up in expectations from Feld.

In a proper world they should or would be similar (by scale). So say whatever NASCAR is, like 50% of those fees as just a ball park figure.

It boils down to how much feld us going to charge... is it gonna be 10k for sx and 10k mx and 10k for stupidcross.. or more???... these media companies barely break even... now they gotta pay thousands just to shoot pics and vid to HELP the morans at feld promote sx mx...

I'd expect most of the media outlets not to cut the check, i dont think many of them even have the cash to... they'll still be at the races both won't be able to use any pics or vid... #goingbackwardsbecauseofgreed

If Kevin pays, he can shoot... no pay no vid.... same goes for the cringe lord, the Lawrences, mattyb, swap, etc...

And btw... the manufacturers,  from honda/yam etc to fox/astars to renthal/Dunlop should be pissed... just means worse/less media coverage for all of them.... they will now be getting less exposure thanks to the greedy folks at feld/mxsports...

Incorrect, you can make this sport extremely professional without the nickel and diming of everyone. If you want to make it professional? The AMA needs to be consistent, the riders have to have a say in the tracks, the tv production need a major revamping. Those are the things that companies notice. Not a bunch of red tape

I'm guessing they're pissed off about the people selling images and videos to riders, teams, and businesses when they don't own the media to begin with. If that's the case, it's very understandable. Where do you think the photos from the ads we see and what each rider posts for social media come from? They don't come from the stands, that's for sure.

I’m safe because we have a diverse viewership, good content structure, and great advertising partners. We can pivot when needed to and we’ll change up our content if we need to.

That machine has vilified me this year. Being at the races hasn’t been fun experience this year.

Just speculating here, but I believe Feld is very likely going to contract a small number of photographers who would be allowed unrestricted access at their 2027 events. These photographers would shoot exclusively for Feld and would pool all of their photos and videos for sale and distribution as Feld sees fit. Essentially, Feld would be creating a stock photo agency to control all of the images and to profit from the work of the photographers, riders, teams and manufacturers while limiting access to and usage of the images of their riders and motorcycles as well as aftermarket apparel and equipment. The credential fees and new usage restrictions are just there to chase off the freelance corps who will never be able to make a living with those limitations. It seems crazy to fans of the sport, but it makes sense when you consider that Feld isn't in the supercross business, they are in the entertainment business. Hoping I'm wrong, though.
