Looks like MXGP will require them starting in ‘28. ‘Recommended’ for ‘27.

Can any other manufacturer have a product by then? If not, can A-Stars produce enough, and enough canisters? Probably some discussions taking place there today.

Hopefully Herlings can get a discount on an A-Star system.

There are several other brands making them and they went mandatory for motoGP quite a few years ago and it’s made a huge difference in injuries for those guys.

Amazing. I would have gone through a lot of these growing up!

His bones would be dust if it weren’t for airbags 😂

Just like those mechanical chairs next to every pool. Create a product, lobby congress to pass a law making your product mandatory- boom…millions..

Klim is another manufacturer. Not sure about others. Edit: the 2025 FIM list appears to just have road models, but there are a few road manufacturers.
Ai-1 Rally Airbag Vest – Klim

FYI, can't be used with a neck brace. Anyone see evidence that the airbags are better?

Nobody else, that I am aware of, is making one for motocross. It requires very different motion algorithms than road racing. I have an RST suit with an airbag. It took A-Stars many years to develop the Tech Air MX after they had systems for road racing.

In and motion has one but I believe they just aren’t available in the US yet.

Cool, there you go!

In&Motion makes the airbag system for RST RR suits.

I would think the FIM, Infront, or whoever drove this decision, had talks with industry before writing the policy. Perhaps more out there than we are aware.

RST and Shot SRG make really nice units for motocross. But they are not available in the US.  In&Motion does not allow the Motocross mode for any vest in the US and Canada. It's a regulatory issue that I don't fully understand.

I researched airbags pretty heavily two years ago after a big wreck.  Right now the Alpinestar Tech Air is the only thing for sale in the US that's Motocross specific. But if you look at the list of approved airbags for FIM category "3", for motocross, there's about 15 options to choose from.  I would love to have an SRG-1 vest, but there's just no viable way to use it in the US.

I think they are mandatory for Dakar WEC or whatever they are called as well.

I like it.  It’ll force development and make our sport safer.  Alpinestars first rendition is heavy but it’s GOOD and it’s helpful no doubt.  Even if it were only 20% effective…that’s gonna save hundreds (maybe more?) of people a year.  I’ll take it.

Where is the shoulder protection ?  Not sure but my impact to the shoulder might hv broken my 7 ribs on my backside , punctured lung & ripped a whole in lung. That creates massive pressure inside your chest cavity, worse than a massive heart attack. 3 rotator cuffs tore & 1 strained too.  5 ribs r still separated & not healed from 6-27.

The shoulder protection is right over your shoulder. Where should it be?

Manufacturers have know this was coming to MXGP since 2024, but they didn't know when it would be compulsory.

I got one after my big get off in July.  Have yet to try it yet.  Still not ready to ride.

Looks very narrow is there a pic of the air bag blown up ? Does it cover the whole shoulder when blown up ? When I got up pressure & pain in chest was extremely high. Couldn’t breath in or out 30 seconds then a minute then 90 seconds, I thought I might b dying . Felt a real numb & burning in my shoulder. I ran my hand under my hRP & my big bone spur was gone & felt like my collarbone was higher & said to myself I broke my collarbone that’s supposed to b painful. Then I noticed my left arm shaking like a seizure & my body was showering sweat. I knew I was in trouble then.  I googled it my body was in shock . I took off & picked up my bike with 1 hand & got it fired up . I noticed a large spot of gas in the sand , I must’ve been down a while. I motioned people to help at my van & no one did then the old Man walked ovr . He said your neck & face is swelling fast & called 911.  Hole in the lung caused my body to swell up every 30 seconds more & you feel more pressure, it’s unexplainable pain & pressure.  Paramedics gave me  shot of fentanyl, that calmed my fighting to Breath down a little but didn’t kill the pain .  Ever see someone’s neck & face swell 4-5 inches out that’s a hole in the lung & they need icu immediately.

I had a get off 5 weeks ago.  Broke a few ribs and had some internal bleeding.  Had an under protector on.  I am trying to decide whether to buy the Tech-Air or the RXR

I got one off of Temu. It was crazy cheap but it’s self inflatable.

Yes of course, the first MX airbag was introduce by Shot using the worldwide leader in wearbable airbag tech In&motion: https://mxvice.com/2024/07/30/shot-worlds-first-airbag-for-motocross/

Sounds like you had a good one too.  Are your ribs healing ?  Did you break them on the backside ? Because that’s alot worse with all the nerves & nerve endings.  You doing research on air bags ? If so look into if it covers the whole side . I hv 5 of the 7 still broke from 6-27 & separated knifing in on the side & back a little. I was told 12 months b4 skiing etc.  maybe a good air vest I could ride next late June & get ready for some Big races.

I broke 11th and 12th on the back side.   It will be 5 weeks Sunday and I still have some lingering pain.   The Tech-air doesn’t fully wrap around like the RXR does.   I landed on my right side so I am not sure how much it would’ve helped.   A buddy bought the Tech-air after my get off.  He said it’s heavy but he doesn’t notice it while riding.  He did say he didn’t know if he could wear it if the temp was 90+.

I hate chest protectors in general.   But wear my RXR every time until they come out with something better
