1981 America didn't send their strongest team...
I’m good thanks.
I can’t stand the kid, but that’s purely speculation. It is public knowledge that they said what it would cost to go.
But if you just think they are lying, I guess that’s your prerogative.
Deegan wanted to get paid to race.
Star Racing asked for 100k to go racing.
Odds Bobby would of just slid the money over, thus giving Deegan his start money?

DeCal Works Huge Plastic Inventory of UFO and Polisport kits.
Enough connected industry people have said it clearly enough now that they'd be at risk of defamation claim if not true, so at some point it stops being speculation.
Deegan is also the same guy that sat there and denied injuring his wrist while the surgical scar was visible, so yeah I think he's pretty comfortable lying.
Connected industry people giving their opinion? Got it.
I work on documented proof…. Got any?
The kid pisses me off, but the actual evidence is as posted above by Dan541.
And I wasn’t talking about Deegan, talking about Star.
Edit: Look, I’m just not going to participate in conspiracy theories…. But it’s also not my job to talk you out of them either.
I stopped reading a couple of pages into this thread, has anything of any substance been said in the last 15/16 pages, or has it all been some form of Deegan's the anti-Christ / Deegan can do no wrong?
"If MXGP doesn't make some changes and quick, MXDN will die"
Around 20,000 tickets were already sold in advance for this years edition, way before any selection was announced. And counting. So much for the dying MXDN. Team USA isn't any longer the only nor the main attraction of the Nations. No one wants to pay any American rider in advance, hoping this will woo him or his team. It's about time AMA, Feld, teammanagers, riders, fans, etc. start to realize that and do something about it.
Infront could help to solve the disinterest of federations like the AMA by paying out prizemoney, but to state every single time it's their responsibility and only theirs that some of the best AMA-riders skip the event, is plainly wrong.
MXGP is the leading body of modern MX (read carefully before you start to fume, I said MX, not SX). Past and current front runners in AMA-organised races almost all came through the EMX-programs. The Lawrences, Roczen, Musquin, Vialle, Prado, Ferrandis, Haarup,... and soon the Coenens. All the leading riders in the coming SMX-races, with the exception of a couple of Americans, will have come through EMX. In the past guys like Albertyn, Pichon, Bayle, Pourcel, Townley, Tortelli, Vuillemin, Roncada, Langston, Reed,... came over from GP's to AMA to win races and championships. Even the mid-tier pack becomes more and more European every year: Guillod, Tøndel, Kullas,... They come over to the US, not only for the amount of money they can earn, but because the idea of "the American dream" still exists with a lot of people here and racing in a packed footballstadium is something they've never experienced before. Guys like the Lawrences would've been millionaires aswell if they stayed in the GP's. Herlings is the best example you can get, owning 90+ properties, all bought with his revenues.
The last great American champion that European fans eagerly looked forward to seeing race in real life, was Tomac. He's now at the end of his career, and the only American who can fill his shoes in my opinion, is Deegan. Not a single American rider, at this moment, makes the blood pump faster in any MXGP-fan's veins. I had the privilege to see riders like Emig, Lamson, Dowd, Carmichael, Stewart, Windham, Villopoto, Dungey, Tomac, Barcia, etc. race for the first time in real life thanks to an event like the Nations. Do you understand the difference between those names and the leading and fastest Americans of today?
Do you think it's a normal thing when Coenen shows up on a track at high altitude he's never seen before and goes 2-2 immediately? Smoking every American on the grid, only losing from the absolute best motocrosser in the world at this moment? Or his brother dominating a race on another track he's never seen before, even with a broken collarbone? You can chestpound all you want about American supremacy, but it's about time to wake up my friend.
Whatever Brian...
Ultimately the whole notion of Deegan wanting money up front is just so ridiculous. The best US riders never ever once made this demand, and he is not in that category and if he never goes he never will IMHO. They just don't want to race, it's scary, let's just cut to the chase here and eliminate all of the other bullshit in the 17 pages of this thread. He will want to race when the conditions suit him-will he ask for start money the next time the US hosts.....? Fuck no.
OK Tate....
If deegan doesnt want to go thats perfectly fine. Its only a bitch move because every single year he pretends he wants to go right up until the last second then pulls out leaving everybody scrambling. He should just be up front about it instead of being a little weasel and fucking the team over EVERY SINGLE YEAR so far. Him not wanting to go is not the problem, its the dishonesty and weasely behavior that is.
He accepted last year and broke his collarbone.
By acting like a fool against Shimoda.
You must be confusing me with someone else. I never said one word about American supremacy on a motocross track. Actually I don't think there is one American rider (not AMA) at this time that would crack the top 5 in MXGP. What I am trying to get across to you is that no riders European, American, Asian etc. should not have to foot the bill when this race is a cash cow for MXGP. I have thought about it and I can't come up with a reason that MXGP shouldn't pay the riders expenses. What's shocking to me is how many Euros are fine with MXGP making a fortune off the riders. I think you and I have beat this to death, I'm going to sign out of this discussion. Thank you for debating a subject like an adult rather than name calling and outright anger. Enjoy the MXDN, I can't make it this year. Belgium has such a strong team on paper, I hope both Coenen brothers will be there.
Still doesn't change the fact he was going. It's also my point that it's stupid to keep expecting these guys to race a dangerous sport and race for free at the end of their season where one injury ruins their entire next season.
What good did going to MXoN last year do for RJ? Bro couldn't get back on track until summer after getting hurt.
These GP guys have until late Feb, early March until their seasons start. It's apples to oranges comparison their world and our riders'
Also, Marchbanks said he was in and then bailed and no one is bagging on him. He would've been a lot better than Cooper Webb or Hymas.
It's all just selective outrage cause it's Deegs
Don‘t come up with that shit of injury,Deeganpussy will race WSX,he can risk an injury and his preparation for 2027 will be in the ass!
He's making money for racing WSX. A lot of it. If he gets hurt he at least got paid. That's the entire point of my argument and you just made it for me. Thanks!
Pit Row
All you guys arguing that InFont should stump up to cover expenses for all teams…
How many riders and teams are out of pocket to do all 17 SX rounds and all 11 Pro Motocross rounds? It’s outrageous; the promoters should be held to account and the teams and riders should stop going unless they are compensated. Do you know how much it costs to cross the country a dozen times, hotels, entry fees etc? Not to mention the expenses in sending two semis everywhere.
This has to stop; all proceeds should be equally distributed to all entrants and put an end to this exploitation.
But Deegan is racing WSX; better call and tell him the risk is too high and he’s eating into his SX prep time.
Did you just say he's eating into his SX prep time . . . by racing SX? lol
I doubt the WSX money would be more than a small fraction of what he gets for SX.
Actually now that I think about it, racing WSX is a genius move. Collect the $200K appearance money, send it and get injured, sit out SX and still get paid. Maximum income for minimal effort.
Maybe a podium-result-only bonus deal could have persuaded Deegan.
Then he would have raced for free.
Ignore him. Be proud of the three who have stepped up. They'll give it their all.
Okay, now do any other form of professional racing. Or any other professional sport.
Obviously the whole thing is a hobby in your mind and everyone should just do it for free. And again, if Infront wants to stream it for free and donate event profits I'm all in on the teams and riders and fans who want to donate reciprocating but as long as it's a (massive) business venture all it's just emotional blackmail.
This is basically what I've been saying for years but this year because of Deegan everyone is blind and just jumping on the hate Deegs bandwagon.
People can't think critically.
It is a paid hobby. I have little sympathy for professional athletes who cry poor, or those that think they deserve to be paid.
More power to them all if they can make a living, or even a fortune, from their chosen hobby, but don’t whinge about the struggle when it isn’t paying off the way they hoped.
So if your boss or a regular client or wherever you get your money from asked you to perform whatever task it is you do for a living for free so they could make an asston of cash from it you'd be fine with it? That's what you're saying here, right? I mean, do it for the children, right? Never mind that we're charging the children every dime we can get from them.
I’ve been paid a salary most of my working career; which means I did lots of things that weren’t explicitly outlined but were clearly within the scope of my roles and expertise.
For example, if my boss said go jump on a plane to Africa and check out this operation that’s what I would do. My boss is the one who paid me, not the operation that I went to. If I’m not mistaken riders get paid by teams, not the event promoters and organisers, so that seems most analogous to me.
More recently I’ve been doing consulting. Different setup where I get paid only for what I do. But occasionally under certain circumstances I’ll do small projects or tasks and not charge, because I might deem it worthwhile in order to build a long term relationship that is worth a lot more.
Having said all that, I don’t make my money from a hobby or sport. I studied, learnt skills, got experience in a field that generates actual wealth. Many people can, and have, made a good living in my industry. In contrast, professional sport is a high risk career choice, and individual sports even more so than team sports. Only a tiny percentage of professional athletes get paid well, and in most sports the career window is fairly short. Elite athletes do work hard and make a lot of sacrifices, but not more than a lot of other people who work hard at their careers.
At the end of the day you pay your money and you take your chances. People are free to choose a high risk career and make the best of it, but don’t complain when it doesn’t work out the way you planned.
BTW when I say high risk I mean risk of making a worthwhile living, not physical risk. There’s a lot of industries that carry a higher level of physical risk than dirtbike racing.
I don't think there is anything analogous to your job or mine on the issues here. Not a thing.
That's a good pic of you super_fan.
