Yam releasing this a day after the KX327 news, and receiving about 1% as much interest...
Just like the 26 YZ450, everyone will be swapping out the intake funnel, muffler, and ECU to get it back where it belongs. No worries. Have to undo all these ridiculous sound measures that are the stock bike for some unknown reason because of Pro/FIM sound limits.
Yes that is very true. And to some extent, a lot of vet guys on 250Fs are doing an ECU and exhaust etc anyways, so it's just a few more things that will need attention (airbox and funnel etc.) That being said, it's not so much the amount of power, that I am worried about. I think it's more that I'm assuming as a stock bike, Yamaha maybe didn't think they could get the air velocity any longer, to make it run like the prior engine. So they decided to shift to the new head style and make it more of a top end screamer, like the KTM. So I will be a bit bummed if that is the case, because I really do love the character and power profile of the older bikes (especially the 21-23.) And as I mentioned, I think that response, recovery and ability to pull a higher gear was the allure of that bike. So if that goes away, then I may start swinging back towards thinking about a 450 again. I'm sure it'll still be a great bike, but I think the YZ250F had it's own little niche market of vet guys who liked that unique power and now it sort of seems like it may be more in line with a "typical 250F" power profile.

The 450 lost over a pound on the new style clutch with the steel basket.
I’m curious too why the pic shows shim under bucket when the release says finger followers. Did they really only do it on one side or is that the wrong pic? Why would they show a cutout of that side vs the side with the updated valvetrain?
Here's a motion graphic that shows the intake side from the Yamaha site:

I’m curious to see the reviews that compare the ‘27 to the ‘26. I really like this gen motor. How is the feel of the hydro clutch? Is the change to the brakes noticeable? Is bottom end the same or power shifted up in the rev range?
The new clutch assembly with the steel basket was one pound lighter than the old assembly with the aluminum one or the bike was one pound lighter overall and had the new clutch assembly? 🤔
The clutch lost a pound, bike lost 5 pounds overall.
Then I'd attribute it to the redesign and not the material (obviously).
Yamaha is suffering from success. Everyone knows how good the YZ250f is already.
"Shiny Things" syndrome.
Yes, but you can still replace the ECU relatively cheap :/
Goodbye remaining YZ250F bottom end 😭
Maybe minor changes for 2028, then probably 2029 will see heavy updates / all new bike based off timelines.
I've seen on social media that it seems like there have been testing days on this bike already, outside of the USA. Anyone know when we can expect anything from the typical USA media outlets?
Yeap so finger followers on the intake side only.
-For about .5 seconds when I looked at that graphic I was like huhhh… wtf.. finger followers on only the exhaust side? What kind of weirdo dumb shit is that.. Then immediately remembered oh yea the engine is reversed.
Pit Row
Usually Aussie seems to be first. Will be interesting, and smart if they bring the 26 for back to back comparisons
US intro is in about three weeks.
Any of these in the wild yet that someone here might have ridden?
Got to ride one for 30 min last week to help a friend break it in on a sandier track. I didn't change bars/levers or set sag so I can't give a complete review, but I can say the motor is stronger throughout and it turns well. Since it was break in, I could only push it for .25 and half laps but overall it seems like it improved all of the problem spots people have with the '26 (which I personally like and currently own). Definitely quieter than the '26.
I am a 34 year old B rider on moto and A rider woods for reference.
Thanks for the feedback. Have you spent any time on the Austrian 250's at all to possibly compare to them?
I had a 23 250 sxf and a 25 250 xcf. The Yamahas seem to have their power spread throughout where as the KTMs power is definitely mostly on the upper end. The low end torque on the Yamahas is much more noticeable out of corners than the KTM. As they are 250fs both brands work best wide open (I use a Quick turn cam on the Yamaha), but the Yamaha is more forgiving if you don’t like riding like that due to the torque.
Handling wise I prefer the Yamaha as the front end is more planted and even under high rpm load the suspension never feels in a bind.
The spring forks on a KTM work well (XCF), but was never really a fan of the air forks. Couldn’t find consistency. The stock valving on the Yamaha KYB are good enough out of the box, I haven’t felt the need to ship it to anyone.
As far as durability, I know high level AA woods guys getting 100+ hours out of Austrian top ends and everything still being in spec. For the Yamahas I know a local engine tuner who pulled his stock top end at 40 when he we was racing mainly moto on sand tracks and everything was still in spec. On his woods bike 250f that pulled double duty at the track sometimes, he went over 100 hours with no issues. Personally I haven’t put enough hours on the Yamaha yet to validate his hour report but on the KTMs I never had any issues.
Both bikes are good, I just seem to gel better with the Japanese brand.
Bike gained 5 pounds, not lost. 236 lbs vs 231 lbs.
We were talking about the 450F^
When is embargo?
They're riding it this week at ClubMX, but they rode it in Australia last week.
Couple of walk around videos.
Yeah just watched Keefers video and he said there's an embargo till next week sometime. Seems pretty stupid to me to have an embargo when its already had a media release in Oz and i can even go into my local yamaha dealer and buy one right now.
Yeah weird that these are already out in public with no media release. Especially for an "all new" bike.
