Jimmy Povolny is an avid cyclist. Its not just his hobby its something he is serious about since he retired from MX.
Ezra came off the track a little upset and said in his interview that didn't expect to have to dig deep like he did when he was racing professionally.
Ezra holeshot and Jimmy was in 3rd after the first lap. Fastest lap time went to Jimmy. In a 3 moto format, this one could be interesting.
Maybe Ezra shoulda trained some more
I'm so confused. He didn't think he'd have to dig deep to win a race, like when he was racing? Did he think this was an exhibition?
I really wanted to see Keefer get up there and win! Still 2 motos!

Probably just thinking he wouldn’t need uber fitness for shorter motos? How long are the motos, even? I thought there were grumblings a few years ago because they got shorter with so many classes.

I still remember seeeing Ezra ride his factory CR250 at this local track in Atlanta caled X-Track in the early 00's. We couldn't wrap our heads around how fast he was taking the corners
Most classes at the National are 20 minutes. Not 20 plus 1. Over 50 is 15 minutes. White flag comes out around the 13 minute mark. For most of the other classes it comes out around the 17/18 minute mark.
Back in 2001/2002 I was jumping the grandstand double at Calhoun SX only to look down and see Lusk on his kx 250 flying about 3 feet lower than me. He looked up, landed, and all of my aspirations to ever be a pro motocross racer vanished about 3 corners later.
Keefers best lap time was 7 seconds off Jimmy's best lap time.
Well when you are a past national and SX winner you shouldn’t have to dig too deep to beat a bunch of plumbers and carpenters

Except James Povolny has dozens of top 20 MX and SX finishes in the 250 class from the same era.

Yep I’m from the Midwest and around the same age, know who he is. Still top 20 is far cry from race winner talent. Shows hard work can get you close.

I watched Pontiac 2003 yesterday. My favourite era of moto by far. It’d be awesome to see everyone from that era racing some extremely technical super moto races. I guess Loretta’s will hafta suffice?

I saw him jump the entire whoop section there. He hit the first one pinned wide open and cleared the whole set.
I saw him take a double double section and make it into one jump. He also had a track off 75 north out side of Atlanta that had the biggest triple I’ve ever seen. It looked like a jump you would see at Axlell Hodges place. I never got to see him jump it.

I see JP on the MTB trails near here, he is as fit now as ever, maybe more so. No surprise he's running near the front.
I might be wrong, but I think Ezra got banged up on practice day and he's riding hurt and why he had to "dig deep".
It's insane to think that he won 4 SX races beating McGrath in 1998 on that absolutely horrific tuning fork CR 250 which is one of the worst bikes ever made. He was so fast and aggressive. What a rider he was.
From his podium interview after the race, I got the impression that he was riding injured.
I feel this, I had a similar experience around 2005. I was in Rolla Missouri and the Hahn brothers showed up. They had this section of a corner double about 40ft into a 100 foot double that turned into a table landing, and Tommy threw one sideways the exact way you described. I was looking over and down, and he didn't even look at me lol. We hit the next double roughly together as he was pulling ahead and he gained another bike length in the air over that 60 footer, continued to hold it open around the sweeper and hit the 180 like he was in Reflex. Damn practice day in A/B practice and I felt like a beginner
Fast, aggressive, and yet smooth. But for some reason when things went sideways with Yogi, they went SIDEWAYS. I miss that silver/red fox combo he ran. That kit was rad
I have always wanted to do a 2002 KX 250 Ezra Lusk copy for a vintage bike. For some reason the number "11" looked awesome on those.
There's a funny picture of Tim Ferrys wedding floating around.. Yogi and RC are groomsmen. If you're a moto guy, it's a bit of a mindscrew like "is this some sort of weird Fox ad or is it a family heirloom"
