I know its a big world out there…and its hard to avoid buying from china with every day purchases….but ..no way in hell I”m willingly buying a bike made in china, not because I think it will be inferior but more based off their propensities to steal trade secrets and avoid existing patents…..China needs to start playing by the same rules as everyone else in a global market…for me anyway…

Durability testing should be a huge concern. And quality control.

Founder: Zhang Xue

ZXMOTO seems to be alert to this sort of scepticism. To this end, at his EICMA presentation Zhang addressed something you don’t often hear much about from Chinese manufacturers: after-sales.

“We have learned that not everyone is happy with the efficiency of aftersales service,” he said. “So, we have come up with a five-point plan.”

That plan includes:

  • A Europe-based parts warehouse that can deliver to European dealers within three days. No more waiting a fortnight for an alternator to show up.
  • Ensuring that dealers keep a good stock of common spare parts, such as brake and clutch levers.
  • A warranty that’s on par with “top tier brands” (though Zhang did not actually say how long the warranty would be).
  • Guaranteed times on repairs. “For example, a shock absorber breaks,” explained Zhang. “If it is not replaced within [the promised amount of time], then we will compensate the rider for every day that we exceed that time – even to the point of the repair being free of charge.”
  • Lastly, Zhang says he will be hosting a weekly live broadcast. Within that, there will be an opportunity to directly address issues to the company CEO. “That is, myself,” said Zhang. “Then I will follow up on it myself.”

I don't think ZXMoto has a US distributor yet, so might not see them here for a while.

Nice looking bike.  The cost could go down dramatically if tariffs change, that $8k US price is like 30% tariffs

After looking at the Kove and ZXmoto together, the engine looks  a lot alike from what I can see in the photos. I wonder if they are the  same or how much they share? The frames are slightly different.  But the engine in the US KOVE 250 and the ZXmoto250 look like the same thing the pipe looks near identical. Some different color paints and the pipe guard is different and the motor mounts at the frame are not the same.  Looks like the design of the engine could be the same . With so much lining up when You compare the two bikes.

The Canadian Kove has its oil filler in a different spot. and I think that the white bike they show is a rendering after I looked closer.  And the engine is different in the gen 2 bikes shown on the Canadian website .

WIth some discounts like the rebates, these could be really cheap . If they are relatively reliable and last well, it will be great. Even if the suspension is not as nice or  the wheels might not hold up to a faster rider. It could be a great beginner race bike.  If either brand is able to grow a customer base, I bet they will come out with bikes that are on par or better performing than the current popular options are, and still cost less.  It may take 5 or more years, but I think it will happen if the consumer and tariffs  allow it to.

Yea the way they came out in supersport these guys arent planning on messing around for a few years, theyre coming out the gate with competitive bikes and looking to win immediately. It honestly would be nice to have some bikes that are much cheaper and not as good for beginners to get into the mx side of the sport, but thats not gonna be zxmoto from the look of things.

That could also mean a decent base to work off of. And   production bikes  that might not be the best to start with.  But race bikes that are on par. If they can make a reliable bike  that's decent as a stock bike. But maybe the suspensions not the best and the wheels are not on par, or cheaper tires, etc.  And then the Teams race bikes would have modified engines, and kit suspension anyway.  They could have good race bikes and ok production bikes for a little bit.

The engine on the 250 looks like its identical to the Kove. He was one of the cofounders of Kove though right? Maybe he has some deal to use the same engine? That Kove that they call the second generation version has a different engine . I wonder  what the details of the engine are. I have service manuals for the Kove. I thought I had seen them for the ZXmoto too but I can not find them now. I was going to look at the engine info and see how similar it is inside.  The GPX bikes have used old Yamaha engine designs or elements from them. expired patents .

I think it will be interesting to watch and see how a chinese t factor goes racing when they want to win.  I wonder if it will be like KTM throwing a ton of money at it failing early on with Mcgrath, or like when they got Dungey and threw even more money at a decent bike? Or  if they will be more like what we have seen from Triumph and Ducati  with how their programs have been run. Having good riders, but not riders that can win a title right away.

Imagine what would happen if ZXmoto signed Chase Sexton and they went out and won! It would blow people's minds, I know it would blow mine!

Judging by ducati, triumph, fantic, beta…etc if you have the money, engineers, and manufacturing creating a competitive mx bike is no longer dark magic. Everybody essentially knows what it needs and what goes where. Those companies had different amounts of experience plus institutional inertia which definitely helps getting started, but can hurt in the long run being adaptable (kawasaki). The advantage theyll have is they can do anything they want or try anything they want and add any new tech they come across that can help now.

I don't think it's really been a mystery for a while on how to make a decent bike. What I think has changed is the cost of making a new model. How well they can predict how the market will react to a new model through all the data that is collected via the free apps and social media people love.  And how much easier/faster/ more options/etc. it is to have the tooling and molds made. Advances in manufacturing and the data that shows demand for the bikes is what has lead to so many options. Its less of a risk now if You do the right market research with all the ways to collect real spending data.

These days  it seems like engineers and designers  are better at engineering ways around patents to  effectively do the same thing, just differently enough to not infringe.  You can see how each brand has impacted others with the designs shifting. The way the KTM air filters are accessed is the easiest to point out. Now Kawasaki and Honda  do it similarly. Kawasaki and Stark have said they used the 08 CRF chassis as inspiration.  And many little things that slowly end up showing up on every brand in a little different way. Manufacturers seem to have realized that reinventing the entire way a bike is built is not the way to build the best bike. And evolution instead of revolution has been the way for a while now.  The building of a decent bike by anybody willing to spend the money and do the work has been possible for a while.

And I know a lot of people hate it when I say this, but the real chance for affordable, reliable high performance motocross bikes is with electric. Sharing motors, basic battery structure and programing across a wide range of products will make bikes much cheaper to build. Electric options are already making it affordable for people to get into riding on a surron sized bike. So many decent options for that size bike that are between $3k and $5k.  I could see a similarly priced legit MX bike in the future.  A company like Honda that has a wide range of vehicles they could build an adaptable powertrain for could push the market towards being similar to the EMTB market. With a handful of motor and battery manufacturers and many brands building a chassis and using the powertrain from one of the big brands.

Take the Stark Varg for example, with that one bike and some programing changes You have pretty much built an entire line of different displacement bikes with that single bike. From a full sized XR 200 level power, to a more than 500 2 stroke level of power. And You can program how it hits and tailor the power to fit what You want. You could do that across an entire line of vehicles. A company like Honda  could use a handful of different motors to power their entire range of vehicles. Drastically reducing the amount of vehicle specific parts needed and increasing the parts that are used across all models. Dealers would have to stock fewer parts since one motor might be the same in 100 different vehicles. So the chance of a dealer having what You needed in stock would be higher. Distribution of parts gets easier ,uses up less physical space, etc.

I saw Kove has had rebates of $500 - $3K on their rally bikes. They   And low or 0%  interest loans on the current bikes.

The current 450 Pro rally bike retails at $9499.00   they had the rebate for $3 k off of it on in stock 2024 models $6499.00 sounds like a great price on one.

I know this thread is not about Kove. But if You look at the US site VS canada site . The 250 has a different engine and they are calling it the second generation. It comes in Red or white.  On the website the white model has a different engine than the  red one.  It its clearly 2 different engines.  And then the US version looks different too.  Maybe the white verion is a version 1? the engine looks similar but hase differnt mounts and  exhaust.kove mx250 motocorss color red

kove mx250 motocorss color white

And then the teal one is the one shown on the Kove international site and US siteKove-MX250NoNumbers.jpg

So reading about the specs a bit its 40hp at 12500rpm and 20 ft lb of torque. Right where its supposed to be. Also it has a steel frame and comes with kyb suspension. It has dual injectors and they said it has the same bore, stroke, and compression as the honda. So basically youre getting a ktm frame, honda engine, and kyb suspension. Thats pretty good imo. Having another steel frame option to choose from is nice and this one with kyb suspension. Id definitely like to try one.
